Mother's Daughters Diner - Forney

Mother's Daughters has a few locations across the Dallas Metromess. It has a reputation of down home cooking which will score with a Grove Rat Redneck. The Mother's Daughters in Forney has been open probably less than a month. I won't say it is popular, but tonight there were more people there than Walmart. So the Wifey and me decided I needed new fodder for the food blog, so we did the boogey to Forney. Surprisingly we got a table in less than 10 minutes and there were people everywhere. So they have some fast service. There was a very large number of workers serving, filling tea glasses, cleaning tables, etc. I watched the dish washer for a pretty good while and he was working at a frenzy the whole time and never slowed down.

My first concern is that my favorite down home food is meatloaf and they only have meatloaf on Wednesdays. So you can count on my next post from MDD will be on a Wednesday evening.

We decided to share an entre and veggies and get our own pie. That is a plan a redneck can appreciate.

We ordered chicken fried steak, pinto beans and mashed taters.

The meal came with rolls and corn bread. I didn't eat a roll because the corn bread was really good. It get's a 7.5.

The chicken friend steak was a little tough. Of course chicken friend steak isn't sirloin, it is a lower quality piece of beef, but I have had a better quality of beef at many places. Also, the CFS had only a very slim coat of crust. Now a redneck wants a lot of crust. That wasn't happening tonight. The CFS was decent but certainly not great. The CFS gets a 5.5.

The pinto beans had a very good flavor. Mitcho liked these beans. Givin the beans a 7.

The mashed taters was mashed taters. You can mess them up, but you can't hardly make them great. They get a 5.

At the end of the meal I ordered Coconut Pie. Now I am a big fan of the coconut pie. My M-I-L makes me a coconut pie either Thanksgiving or Christmas every year. I eat coconut pie till I am almost dead, then I get resuscitated and I eat another piece. My M-I-L could teach MDD a few things about Coconut Pie. The Coconut Meringue was heavenly. It was really sweet and loaded with coconut. The problem was the pie filling. The pie filling was the most bland vanilla pudding I have ever eaten. Not so good. The crust was very flaky and tasty. The Pie only gets a 5.56.

Overall MDD gets a 5.765.

CiCi's Pizza

Tonight was at Jupiter and Arapaho, but they are all pretty much the same.

CiCi's is not actually one of the places I want to go to. We had the grands tonight, The Boss, Big Guy and Lil Darlin. Basically you can take them to one of three places successfully, Cici's, McDonalds and Taco Bueno. At Cici's the three will eat two to three times more food than any other place. Big Guy eats Macaronni pizza, go figure CiCi's must have some redneck in them also, or they wouldn't be putting Macaroni on a pizza. Lil Darlin eats the pasta and a number of bowls of pasta. When she is done, it is all over her. The Boss will eat any version of cheese pizza. To say the least, they are not foodies yet.

As for me, 2/3 of the pizzas on the buffet are some version of Pepperoni pizza. My favorite is the very thin crust Pepperoni and Sausage. Then it is a tie between Peppersoni pizza and Pepperoni and Jalapeno pizza. The pizza is OK. I would say it is one notch better than frozen pizza.

For me the best part is the desert bar. Now Mitcho does like the cinnamon rolls. This is one place the different CiCi's vary greatly here. Some put a large amount of cinnamon on top, some just put a little. Tonight at Jupiter and Arapaho, they only put a small amount of cinnamon. The Cici's in Wylie on Hwy 78 just west of Hwy 78 and Hwy 205 puts a large amount of cinnamon on the cinnamon rolls.

Also, they have an apple crunch pie and brownies that aren't bad.

CiCi's gets a 5 without desserts and a 5.5 with them. This is not a destination, this is a place you are forced into.

Sometime soon I will be doing a Dessert Week and CiCi's will not be one of my selections.

Pizza Getti - Deluxe Pizza

Me and the wifey spent all morning painting a house as a volunteer project. By 12:30 we were tired, hungry and filthy. So we decided to boogedy boogedy boogedy to the Pizza Getti. There are not too many places where you can go eat in your painting clothes, especially if they have 10 or more colors on them. At Pizza Getti we know all of the owners and employees and a lot of the customers, so we get a break here.

Since we had no kids or grands with us we were able to order what we want. We ordered the Deluxe Pizza. I started ordering this pizza here in September, 1968. In the late 60's and 70's, I could walk into the place and they would start cooking my pizza without me ordering, now that's service. The Deluxe has pepperoni, canadian bacon, sausage (the sausage really has a great taste), beef, green olives, black olives, onion, and much much more. This is my absolute favorite pizza. As I said before, the flavor just bursts in your mouth on every bite. Givin the Getti a 10.

If you are hungry, saddle up and ride to the Pizza Getti. On Buckner Blvd between I-30 and John West. It is worth the trip.

By the way, Happy Birthday to the CBoss yesterday.

Snuffers - Rockwall

Friday night is date night, so Friday night is spent keeping the grands. So we did the turtle crawl to Rockwall (talking about traffic). We grabbed up Precious and Lil' Bud and off to Snuffers.

Snuffers is all about Cheese Fries. Their menu is pretty short and too the point, you went there to get Cheese Fries.

We ordered a cheeseburger. The burger was ok, but nothing special. It had so little onion on it that I had to read the menu again to verify that onion was on the burger. Now you know Mitcho likes some onion'. A low rate of onion means a low score on the blog. Givin the burger a 5.

We also ordered Fried Pickles. Now Mitcho has had some good fried pickles. These weren't the ones. Snuffers needs to send a spy to Twisted Root or Razzoos and find out what fried pickles are all about. On the Snuffers version, the pickle is way too thick. The batter is batter from the chicken fingers, it needs to be onion ring batter or spiced onion ring batter. Givin the Fried Pickles a 4.5.

Now we are to the real reason you go to Snuffers. Cheese Fries with bacon and onion. Now almost anything with lots of cheese, bacon and onion is going to be some fine eating. That's what we got here. There is plenty of cheese and a stack of bacon and onion. Loving the Cheese Fries. The Cheese Fries get a 7. It probably deserves a higher score, but it is weighed down by the other items low scores.

The service was pretty good tonight. No complaints there. Service gets a 6.5

Overall Snuffers gets a 5.75.

Whataburger - Town East Blvd near Motley

Me and the wifey were painting this evening again for ReBuild, so we needed to do an early dinner (3:30). So we sashayed to Whataburger for an early dinner. This wasn't our first visit here.We have been coming to this Whataburger for many years. Fast service and good food will bring you back time and time again. Over the last few years, they have remodeled this Whataburger, so it is pretty nice inside. It also has some interesting pictures from the 50's and 60's.

This trip I ordered the Whataburger combo. Now Whataburger is a man's hamburger joint. They put mustard on the burger, not that sissy mayo. Also, they load the burger with lots of onion and you know Mitcho loves onion. This is probably the biggest burger in the chain burger joints. I like the taste of the meat in the Burger King burger, but Whataburger wins going away in all other categories. The burger gets a 6.85.

I also had fries and they are pretty good here, however, they are not anything special. They do have several flavors of ketchup which is a definite plus. Givin the fries a 6.5.

Whataburger is trying to become a service type restaurant. They are constantly coming by the table to see if we need anything else. Of course they are carrying a tray with ketchup, salt, pepper, and napkins. All of these things are already on the table if you need them. They also try to refill your drink, but I didn't come there to be served, just fed. So go away and leave me alone. But they are trying.

Overall, this Whataburger trip gets a 6.675

Joes Pizza and Pasta- Stromboli Galloway & Tripp Rd next to Mardel

We hadn't seen the members of our CG in about a month, so I thought it was time to get together for some food and fellowship. Joes is near where we meet for CG and a central location for our members, so it seemed a convenient choice. So the wifey and me made our way to Joes.

I ordered Stromboli tonight (just for blog purposes). The Stomboli doesn't come with a salad, so no report there. If you read my last review of Joes, you know the salad is no great loss.

The rolls are decent but they only get a 5. Now Olive Garden has a good scoring roll.

The Stromboli is probably a pizza crust roll that has sausage, canadian bacon, hamburger and a lot of cheese. It comes with a marinara sauce. Overall this is a pretty tasty meal. Probably not real good for you, but who cares. Givin the Stromboli a 6.5.

The service tonight was a new girl, but she did a pretty good job. She gets a 6.5 also.

Overall, Joes gets a 6.156 tonight.

The fellowship was an 8.15. You know who you 1.85 are that didn't make it tonight!!!! Don't get any conscious problems about not being there, I am sure you think you had a good excuse.

The best part of the evening, one of the men that was there can solve the carpenter problem I have on a house I am working on for a disabled Vietnam Veteran. Please pray for my partner on this job as he hurt his shoulder on Saturday and may be on the disabled list.(Of course if he was getting paid millions of dollars to paint, he definitely would be on the disabled list - See Rangers, Cowboys, etc.)

Rudy's BBQ - Allen Hwy 75 & Stacy Rd

We had some bidness to tend to in McKinney this morning so on the way home the wifey suggested we stop at Rudy's. It was a little early for lunch, but never a little early for Rudy's.

We first had Rudy's in Austin, since then we have eaten in Rudy's in Waco, College Station, Denton, Tyler, Allen, etc. Mitcho likes Rudy's.

At Rudy's you order by the pound. You can order moist (with fat) or lean (without fat). I am a Lean kind of guy. Rudy's has sides but you go there for the BBQ. We have eaten the potato salad and beans and they are ok, but nothing to write home about. Now the BBQ, that is a different story. The BBQ has a light smoked taste, but it isn't overwhelming. Plenty of Rudy's Sauce is a must. We keep a bottle of the sauce at home just in case. They also give you more bread than you care to eat, onions, pickles, etc. Loving the BBQ all the way to a 7.75.

Note: Rudy's tends to only open stores in smaller towns. So Allen may be the closest they get to East Dallas. So remember this and make a lunch stop when you are on the road. Of course nothing wrong with jumping in the car and heading to Allen. The Allen location is in front of a Cabela's. So there might be two reasons to go that way.

Zeke's Kitchen - Patty Melt Kingsley & Shiloh - Garland

So at lunch today, the wifey suggests we go to Sonic for lunch (Please!!!!). I had a better idea. I had been Dreaming about the Italian Sub at Zeke's Kitchen. The Italian Sub is not on the menu, but I did indicate this is one of those off menu places. So I took my chances. They only have the ingredients for this sandwich when it is the Special for the day. So Mitcho says, go to Facebook and LIKE Zeke's Kitchen. About 10:00 or 10:30 most days, they post on Facebook their Special for the day. If it is the Italian Sub, Step 1, call Mitcho, Step 2 - Bust a move to Zeke's Kitchen.

I did have to eat though, so the Special today was the Patty Melt w/ a side. So I grabbed me a patty melt. This is a good patty of meat on Texas toast, with plenty of cheese and onion. You know Mitcho likes onion. This is a really good sandwich. Mitcho is givin it an 8.65.

I also had the baked beans. This bowl of baked beans is special. They have a hint of BBQ and they have an after burn. Mitcho is liking these baked beans. The baked beans are some of the best I have ever had. Get you a bowl. Mitcho rates the beans at 9.5 (ok, they are only beans, that is about as high as a bean could get).

This meal Zeke's gets a 9.15.

(I spent dinner time tonight between Chuckee Cheese (I call it Cheesy Chuck) and Cici's. Nothing to report there.)

Arby's - Belt Line & 80 in Mesquite

It's Fathers Day which is not as big a deal as Mothers day, but every restaurant in town is going to be full. If you know anything about Mitcho, you know he doesn't like crowds. So we decided to do an alternative meal. So we went to Arby's. We figured no one else would be there and we were right. We had a very quiet and peaceful meal. As you can tell, I can eat in that great place tomorrow when no one else is there.

Arby's is roast beef. I really like their roast beef. I don't ever remember having a bad sandwich. They are very consistent. Today I ordered a Beef & Cheddar, medium size. The wifey indicated she didn't want any fries, but I needed to order a medium so she could eat mine. So medium it is.

The Beef & Cheddar has a thick amount of beef, with plenty of cheddar. I add a good amount of Arby's sauce to every bite and you have a pretty good sandwich. The only problem is there is a good chance of dripping sauce and cheddar on you. I was pretty lucky today, no drips. Givin the B & C a 6.85.

Arby's has curly fries. They are very think cut in a circle. I don't know why I like these so much more than most fries, but I do. The curly fries is almost a reason to go there by itself.

The only hangup at Arby's is when you order, you have to give them a name. Since I was in elementary school, I have had somewhat of a speech impediment. Those that have known me a long time and learned to understand me don't pay attention to it. But new people sometimes have a problem. Some of the hardest letters to pronounce for me are "M" and "CH". Of course this is 3 or the 6 letters of my name. So I never give my real name. Today I said put the order in the name of Beverly. Well I guess I can't say some other letters also, because the order came out as "Bavely". So if you run into me at Arby's and I get Joe's order, it is because I can say Joe.
Arby's gets a 1/2 point reduction for messing up our name.

Arby's gets a 6.75 today.

NOTE: If you know of a restaurant or have heard of a restaurant you would like to have reviewed either comment here or on Facebook. Note I have now reviewed 39 different restaurants that I eat in and I can think of another 10 that I haven't gotten to yet. But I am going to run out eventually.

Burger King - Oates & 635

This morning me and wifey and two friends worked on painting a house for a vietnam veteran this is disabled. We quit a little after 12:00, so we decided to grab a bite to eat. So I suggested we go to Burger King since we were pretty close to it.

The meat on a Burger King hamburger is flamed broiled, which basically means it is cooked on a grill over a fire. You can taste the charcoal effect on the meat and it is very good. For me of the chain hamburger places, Whataburger and Burger King are pretty close.

On this trip I ordered a Mustard Whopper, no tomatoes, with onion rings. At this Burger King, I usually get my order like I like it. It didn't happen today. When I got my sandwich it had mayonaise and mustard. Now who wants that combination, duh. It also had the tomato. Now I like every variation of the tomato, except for a slice of tomato. I can't explain why, it is just that way. This is how I roll.  This burger gets a 4. Usually the Whopper gets a 6.

I also ordered onion rings. The onion rings at Burger King are in the top 5 of all of the places I eat onion rings at. Twisted Root is number 1. But Burger King is close. Giving the onion rings a 7.

We had a great visit with friends and a pretty good meal. Doesn't get any better!

Overall, Burger King gets a 5.

NOTE: Do not go to the Burger King at Town East and 635. The last two times I went in there, we waited 10 to 15 minutes before an employee acknowledge that we were even there. (Actually the second and last time, after 15 minutes they had not acknowledged us or took our order, so we went to Whataburger.)

Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers that are my friends!!! Enjoy your day.

Dairy Queen - Smores Blizzard

Lunch today was chicken fajitas at Posados. So at dinner time I wasn't all that hungry. So we decided dinner tonight would be a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Now if you know me very well, you know that I am legendary!!!!! when it comes to Blizzards. I have eaten a Blizzard in a very large number of Dairy Queens all across the US. I have the T-Shirt!!!

So we swung by and picked up darlin, lil darlin, boss and big guy and off to the new Dairy Queen in Wylie. I really like the decorations and the layout of this new DQ (the Texas Stop Sign). My order tonight was a Smores Blizzard. If you know I am a legendary with Blizzards, you also know that I campout a lot. On my camping adventures I have eaten many Smores over a campfire. So it is only right that I mix the two and have a Smores Blilzzard.  Since it was my dinner I ordered a large. You can definitely taste the Graham Cracker and there are chocolate squares which have marshmellow in between the two layers of chocolate. This is a very good Blizzard. Mitcho says stop what you are doing right now and head off to the nearest DQ and light into a Smores Blizzard.

I know I said I would only have two 10's, but I didn't think about Blizzards at the time. DQ gets a 10!!!!

Chipotle - Town East Blvd in Mesquite

Me and the wifey were working on painting a home for a senior citizen and was going to start working at 4:30. So we had to eat an early dinner. We went to Chipotle at 3:30. OK 3:30 is the dinner hour for senior citizens. But we are not there yet, at least in regards to dinner hour. 6:00 is more like it.

I was amazed at how many people were eating at Chipotle at 3:30. Quite a few people in the restaurant and they were all young people. We have eaten dinner here several times lately around 6:00 and the restaurant was crowded with a line to the door. The food is good, but this seems more like a lunch spot to me.

I ordered a burrito here. I get a vegetarian burrito, but the wifey gets the chicken and really likes the chicken. I get pinto beans, brown rice, bell peppers, onions, medium salsa, sour cream, cheese and lettuce. I like the burrito pretty good and it fills you up. I give it a 6.

We also ordered chips. Their chips come in a bag. I suspect they bag them at 8:00 in the morning because they are approaching stale by late afternoon. Their chips use to have a good lime flavor, but they now are basically just chips. Since they were stale, the chips get a 4.

Overall Chipotle gets a 5.75.

Black-Eyed Pea - Mesquite Restaurant Row

Had a virus last night and today, so I was a little puny at dinner time. So I wanted to eat somewhat healthy. If you read my post regarding Luby's you will understand why I didn't go to Luby's. So the wifey and me made a run for Black-Eyed Pea. This is basically a place to get a home cooked meal from a chain restaurant. Surely that is an oxymoron.

I ordered mashed taters, macaroni & cheese and cinnamon apples.

I started the meal with Peach Tea. I had high hopes that only lasted till the first glass was brought to the table. Two comments about the tea, it was really sweet and it only somewhat tasted like peach. Givin the tea a 5.

The mashed taters are cooked with the peels still on. With plenty of salt and pepper the taters were pretty good. However, taters are a staple that have to be really special to score, so they get a 5.

Next was macaroni & cheese. This tasted like macaroni & cheese. Basically it either does or it doesn't, there isn't much variation here. So the mac & cheese get a 5.

On to the cinnamon apples. The apples were cooked to a good consistency and were in a sweet sauce. I am still looking for the cinnamon. They get a 5.

The meal came with rolls and cornbread. The rolls and cornbread may have been the best part of the meal. They get a 6.

Overall, the Black-Eyed Pea gets a 5.125.

next time

Raising Caines - Rockwall

Well we were off to Rockwall to keep the grands. After a day of ministry work it was time to raise a little cain. So we loaded up Precious and Lil' Bud and off to Raising Caines. The story is the grands eat chicken strips.

First the good news. The Rockwall location has a picture of my hero Chuck Norris in the dining room. The answer to my favorite trivia question is yes, I was an extra in a Chuck Norris movie. I stood in the lunch line behind Chuck and he was a very nice guy, nothing like what I expected. But I digress (I seem to do that a lot.)

First of all the menu has 3 options- chicken sandwich, 3 pieces of chicken strips, or 4 pieces of chicken strips. You are also going to get sauce, fries, and Texas Toast. If you order 4 pieces of chicken strips you also get cold slaw. Not much in the way of choices.

The main thing here is the chicken strips. Of course the chicken is chicken. The score is in the breading. The breading here is ok. I eat at Popeyes quite a bit and their breading is much better. There is also a special sauce. I thought it was ok, but it really didn't have much taste to it. (Several of my family members disagree with my call on the sauce, but this is not their blog!!!) Givin the chicken a 5.

The best part of the meal for me was the fries. The fries are crinkled fries and they were very crispy. I enjoyed the fries. Giving the fries a 6.5

Texas toast is pretty hard to mess up. You take an oversized piece of bread, butter it heavily and toast it. It was good, but back to Popeyes for the biscuit. Giving Toast a 5.5.

Overall, I give Raisin Caines a 5.756. Don't look for many more posts about Raisin Caines.

next time.

Twisted Root - Downtown Dallas/Commerce St

Me and the wifey had bidness to tend to in downtown Dallas late afternoon, so there was nothing to do but get Twisted.

Twisted Root was rated one of the top 5 hamburgers in Texas and it is the best hamburger of all of the hamburger joints we hang out in. The Commerce street location is about 1/2 restaurant and 1/2 bar. The one in Richardson is all restaurant and just as good. It is always busy.

Our hamburger of choice is the Ranch Hand. This is a great tasting hamburger patty with swiss cheese, peppercorn ranch sauce and two pieces of bacon plus fixins. This is a great tasting burger. It is large enough to be a meal by itself. Givin the burger a 9.28

Of course you can't pass up the fried foods. The top of the line is the "Fried Ride". This is fried pickles, fried onion strings, fried sweet potatoes, french fries and fried green beans. We have taken the Fried Ride several times, however, it takes 3 or 4 days to get over having that much cooking oil in your body. It's like electrocution by fried foods.

So we chicken out and order fried pickles and fried onion strings. Fried pickles are always compared to Razzoos Fried Pickles which are the absolute best. The fried pickles here are a step down from Razzoos, but they are still very good. A Pickled score of 8.1.

The fried onion strings are as good as any I have eaten. They are thin cut with a good tasting batter. They are very good. The onion strings get an 8.35.

Overall, Twisted Root is a 9.0.

NOTE: You have to park at a meter. Before 6:00 parking is free, but beginning at 6:00, you have to feed the meter. Also, since it so popular, the parking is full along Commerce for blocks. We have found that if you go over to Main, you park at a meter there and can be within a block.

Also, the clientele for dinner looks like just normal Dallas folk. There are people from all walks of life. Most of them look almost as normal as I do. Of course tonight, there was one young woman that had all visible parts of her body tattooed to the hilt, this is actually an exception not the norm. I wouldn't recommend being here at 10:00 at night.

Pei Wei Firewheel Mall

Last night we felt the need to celebrate the wifey's 2nd 29th birthday. We went to darlin's and went to Pei Wei with her family (wifey's choice - normally we let the kiddos decide which almost always means Cici's). First of all any meal with 2 3 year olds is interesting. So we piled into the soccer van and headed to Pei Wei. Going through the line and ordering went without much difficulty other than deciding which item we are going to order and complain about 2 hours later when we are hungry again. Speaking of being hungry this is actually two hours after the meal, so time out for a minute...................................... Much better.

I ordered Caramel Chicken with fried rice. The chicken was coated in a delicious sauce that obviously had some caramel, but other spices also. It also had the following ingredients on the plate - pinneaple, ginger, garlic, lemongrass, mint, rice sticks, Asian slaw of cucumbers, red bell peppers, cilantro, carrots, red onion, Fresno chili peppers, and Vietnamese Vinaigrette. This created a variety of tastes in each bite. It was pretty interesting and tasty. I washed this meal down with Diet Raspberry/Vanilla Coke (I really like these new fancy Coke dispensers that allow you to get multiple flavors). The Caramel Chicken with fried rice gets a 7.45.

By the way when we left, Pei Wei had 3 or 4 employees cleaning up where "Big Guy" had sat. He was probably hungry leaving since all his food was scattered everywhere. Oh well, he is cute. I sat across from Lil darlin and for once she didn't comment about how fat I was. So this was a good meal.

For dessert, wifey had purchased a pettifor from CASA LINDA BAKERY for each of us. Now everything from CASA LINDA BAKERY is dreamy wonderful. Giving the pettifor a 10 (I was told by wifey that it was a 10 or else). Did I say it was a 10, just wanted to be sure.

Darlin reminded me that I needed to review the Poor Mitch sandwich from Mitcho's Kitchen. So coming soon, the Poor Mitch!!!!

El Chico - Rockwall

Last night we were on our way to Rockwall to keep two of the grands (Precious and Lil' Bud). So we decided to eat in one of the restaurants along Hwy 30 in Rockwall. The final decision had us going to El Chico. Of course I was accompanied by Chipper. But she was not in full form tonight. We ate only one basket of chips.

Speaking of chips, these are basically the standard fare at most Mexican restaurants. They are nothing special but still pretty good. Giving the chips a 6.5.

The salsa was spicy and a good consistency. I enjoyed the salsa tonight. Giving salsa a 7, not salsa lessons.

Chipper ordered the Tortilla Soup, which is one of her staples at Mexican Food restaurants. El Chico is her favorite Tortilla Soup of all of the options. She would give it a 7.

I ordered the Juarez. I am just glad I don't have to go to Juarez to get it. I hear that Juarez is a cartel capital. The Juarez comes with a beef taco, cheese taco, cheese enchilada, beans and rice. I enjoyed the beef taco. It was pretty good size, spicy beef, lettuce and cheese. Now I have never understood why there is a cheese taco and a cheese enchilada. There isn't much difference. Here the tortilla's were a little different and one had queso on top and the other had chili. The queso topped enchilada tastes similar to the cheese taco at every other Mexican food restaurant. The cheese enchilada is topped with a chili. The chili is pretty spicy, which it adds to the flavor and points. The re-fried beans and rice were re-fried beans and rice, pretty decent but nothing special. Giving the whole plate a 7.25.

Overall, tonight El Chico scored a 7.0. Way to go guys.

Next time, Mitcho

Mesquite BBQ - Downtown Mesquite

Mesquite BBQ has been a downtown Mesquite staple for over 50 years. They just recently completely remodeled the restaurant and it looks very nice. They were shutdown for several months, which built up significant BBQ demand in downtown Mesquite. When we got there the line was backed up to the door. Unfortunately the line ahead of us was most of the staff of our church - CLife. I jokingly suggested that the pastors pay for mine and wifey's lunch, but as it turns out, I was lucky to get out of there without buying all 13 of their lunches. I digress!!! Back to the line, it stayed to the door the full time we were there. So it's hopping at Mesquite BBQ.

The wifey and me decided to split a two meat plate. This is sliced beef, sausage and two veggies.

As usual the wifey takes the sliced beef (I am a sausage kind of guy!!!). She said it pretty much tasted the same as the other BBQ places we haunt. She noted the meat had very little fat on it. Sounds like she is giving the sliced beef a 6'er.

I chowed down on the sausage. At this joint the only choice is plain sausage and I am a big fan of the peppered sausage. They get a negative point for not having peppered sausage. The sausage had a pretty good flavor and consistency. The BBQ sauce was pretty good also. So the sausage begins at 6.5, but after the loss of one point is a 5.5.

The baked beans looked like pork and beans, but they had an afterburn that was pretty spicy. The beans get a 6.

The potato salad was mayonnaise based potato salad. Now Mitcho is a mustard potato salad kind of guy.  Mitcho also prefers some onion, relish, or other crunchy additives which this didn't have any of them. Givin' em a 5.

Overall Mesquite BBQ gets a 6.

Arby's - Mesquite Hwy 80 & Belt Line

If you are reading this on Monday night, turn your TV to Channel 13, they have a "Party Song" special going. I am rocking out!!! So if there are any spelling or grammar problems it is part redneck/part party songs.

Okay, it is getting hard to have new material finally. We had dinner at Jason's tonight, but it was identical to the last time. So that post would be "ditto, any questions". So we are working on lunch tonight.

We had important business to tend to at Walmart, junk food and supplies for the T.

This isn't my first visit to Arby's. For a chain fast food place it is a cut above most. I am a big fan of the beef and cheddar, which is what I ordered today. Now the rating of this sandwich goes in direct proportion to how much Arby's sauce you can get on you and the sandwich. I made a mess of things today. So giving it a 6.5.

Of course I ordered curly fries with my meal. Actually I was told to order curly fries. Apparently there are no calories if your husband orders the fries and you eat them. So I am thinking of adding Frybaby to chipper's aliases. The fries I did get to eat had a little Arby's spice on them, curly and nice and crisp. They get a 7.

My main knock on Arby's is they serve Pepsi products which are OK, but my retirement account is heavily invested in Coke. Drink more Coke. But the diet Pepsi was pretty good anyway.

Overall, it averages out to an 6.81652.

Taco Cabana - Mesquite Hwy 80 & Belt Line

Now a good Christian's first priority after leaving church on Sunday morning is getting to the restaurant fast!!!
So most Sunday's we get our boogy on down to the Taco Cabana, probably the closest restaurant to our church. This is also one of the wifey's favorites!!!

Now I have eaten here many times. First of all anything ordered with hamburger meat is going to be running with juice/fat. I don't car if it is tacos shell or soft or street, beef nachos, beef burrito, etc. So I go the chicken route. A chicken runs in the yard not on the plate. See yardbirds earlier.

I order the fajita chicken quesadillas, because it tastes good, not because it is easy to spell. The personal size is a standard paper plate full. The chicken is tender and tasty, plenty of cheese, I think there may be some onion. You can get pico de gallo, but I leave it off. The fcq gets a 6.5.

The meal also comes with a free bowl of chips, but you have to ask for them or you won't get them.

Throw in a Diet Coke and Sunday afternoon is off to a good start.
