Reggae Wings & Tings a Jamaican Restaurant - Mesquite on Town East just south of Motly

The wifey and me are always willing to sacrifice our bodies for your entertainment. We are always looking for the new place to eat at in the area. Recently a new restaurant opened in the old Pizza Inn building on Town East. The wifey today said it was time to take our chances and do the Wings & Tings. So there was nothing I could do but do the Beguine on over to Reggae Wings & Tings.

The place is painted by the official colors of Jamaica and it is decorated Jamaican. There is a big American Flag on the back wall. So we are good. The music is loud and is Jamaican. Bring it on, I like heavy Carribbean music.

So we looked the menu over and there is nothing on this thing that grandma ever cooked. Some of the items, I just don't understand what they are. The place offers a lot of Jerk and Curry. Mitcho likes spicy so I may have found a good spot for me.

We could understand what Jerk Chicken probably was so we went for it. We also ordered okra and french fries. It is pretty hard to go wrong with Yardbird (Chicken for you city slickers). Wow this chicken was Gooooooood! It was a little spicy, hold on a minute while I get some more antacid..........................................., I am back, it's better now. This really had a good spicy flavor. (Note: There was bones mixed in. Other than wings, I don't remember the last time I was served bones. But they were spicy too.)

The breading on the Okra was thicker and a little spicy. Some pretty good okra rat here.

The fries were very thin and crispy. I like that.

Their drinks appear to be cans of Arizona Tea and I am not sure what else.

Overall, this was some good fixin's.   I will be going back soon. They are in a bad location, so if you guys don't get up off your couch and away from your refrigerator and head out to Town East Blvd, then they are not going to make it very long.

Snuffers Rockwall - Bologna Burger

Tonight after doing some of the Lords work at the First Fried Chicken Eaten Mostly Non-Denominational somewhat Baptist Church, us and some church buds holed up at Snuffers in Rockwall. The wifey and me had done the Maypole dance and were there about 10 minutes before the slowpokes. While we were sipping on our Diet Coke (you know I have to protect my School Boy figure), I read an advertisement for the special burger of the month, The Bologna burger. You guessed it, I didn't even look at the menu. A redneck is not going to pass up a chance at fried bologna. Even the wifey knew she had a bologna burger in her near future without asking.

When it came time to order, I proudly ordered up the Bologna burger. All of us know that bologna has to be fried to be really good. Well this bologna was lightly fried. Mitcho wants it burnt. Lightly fried just doesn't cut it. The bologna's taste wasn't as sweet as burnt, but it still over powered the hamburger patty. Just couldn't taste the beef at all. The Jalapeno relish was more like sweet relish. I am still looking for the heat (I didn't even have to take some antacids when I got home). This burger comes with mayo, but you Mitcho is a man's man, which means a side order of mustard to float it in yellow. Of course the meal was accompanied by cheese fries. You just don't go to Snuffers without getting cheese fries. I don't care what kind of diet you are on.The cheese fries were floating in cheddar cheese and add some bacon bits and chives and you got some good lovin right there.

Next time I will go back to one of the old reliable's on the menu.

Throw in some good times with some good friends and you got yourself an evening better than hanging around the still swapping untruthful stories.

Lakewood Cafe-Hwy 66 & Dalrock Rowlett

The wifey and me were holed up at the First Fried Chicken Eaten Mostly Non-Denominational Somewhat Baptist Church. As any good churchified person, as soon as Sunday go to meeting is over, it is time to rush to the restaurant and eat like there is no tomorrow. The wifey informed me that we were doing the gallop over to Lakewood Cafe. My East Dallas homey's would expect this cafe to be in the one and only Lakewood. If it really is at Hwy 66 and Dalrock, then the name should be Lakeview or Lakeside. Lakewood? Really?

We slid in and was seated immediately. After skating over the menu, I came to the conclusion that this is a breakfast, brunch and somewhat lunch joint. The pancake choices caught my attention immediately. They have blueberry, strawberry, banana, and a number of others. So when out waitress sauntered by, I ordered banana pancakes and bacon. I asked for my bacon to be burnt. A good redneck cooks his bacon with a blow torch, which the final result is always burnt. The waitress was the most accommodating regarding the burnt bacon. I think she really got it, but most don't.

The pancakes came with whipped cream on top with a number of banana slices. The pancakes themselves had banana slices throughout. The bacon, BURNT, just like I like it. This earned the waitress and extra dollar tip and an Atta Boy (I hope that didn't bother her, since she was not a boy!!!)

Overall, they done breakfast up good here. The wifey had a BLT (without the T) and thought it was very good also.

This looks like it may wind up in the lunch after Sunday go to meeting rotation.

La Joya Mexican-Downtown Wylie on Ballard

It's Friday and party night. Darlin' and Sax Man was going to party it up late. This means the wifey and me are agitating the grands. We always take the varmints to dinner when we are agitating them. The only food word these three know is pizza. Two days ago, the wifey let it be known that pizza was not in play tonight. After considerable  and sometimes heated discussion we settled on Mexican. Then we negotiated over all of the Tex-Mex joints in North Texas. I finally settled the issue by deciding on La Joya. I had never been here, but our Darlin' and Chipper had and gave it high marks. Chipper, CBoss, King L, Lil Darlin' and me did the Cha Cha to La Joya.

This is a very small locally owned restaurant, but they do a booming bidness. It is sparsely decorated, but I didn't 't come here to look at the walls. Everything here is reasonably priced, which is a very good thing.

We started off ordering drinks. The 3 kiddos aka varmints ordered Sprite in the bottle. I was surprised to see large real glass bottles. All sodas taste much better in a glass bottle. Chipper and me ordered tea.

After a few minutes, they brought chips and hot sauce. The few chips I got were thicker than most and the hot sauce was spiced up nicely. Of course when Chipper is with you, you are not going to get many chips.

I ordered the Mexican plate. Wow they thought I was haungry. The meal started with a very tasty taco which was in a thicker than normal shell. Then I went after the chalupa. Another rather thick tostada and very good. The cheese enchilada had a good tasting cheese and some good chili over it. Finally it was tamale time. Another very good tamale. The rice and beans were just normal rice and beans. Overall this was some good eats.

If you have a hankering for some bueno Mexican food and you are haungry, then grab up your gang and head out to La Joya, you won't regret it.

Hop Doddy - Preston Center North Dallas

This here redneck just doesn't like having to go to North Dallas. Those people who think they are rich, don't understand rednecks or our extreme value to life.I understand those rich folk, but they are not my cup of tea. However, once in a while, I have to infiltrate their territory to do a little bidness. Today I wasn't just real incognito (undercover), I had on two layers of flannel shirts. My outfit would fit in at the country cafe or Dairy Queen, but in North Dallas not so much. The bidness was no problem because they were taking my money. At least this time it wasn't the county sheriff.

After our bidness we did the Bolero over to Hop Doddy's Burger Bar.This is clearly a Millennial's hang out. The deco is nicer than my Dairy Queen and modern. I did notice that in all of their aloofness they do have a picture of Willie Nelson on the wall. Watch out, that opens the doors for us rednecks. The people were nice and didn't give me a stinky face.

Our overview of the menu reveals burgers with Turkey, Duck & Chicken patty, green beans, cranberry sauce, basil pesto, Chipotle Aioli (whatever that is), lamb, argula, and wasabi. You won't find this stuff at Whataburger. They did have a Classic Burger. They might as well call it the Mitcho Redneck burger. Meat, bun, onion, etc. So we chose the Classic Burger with cheese and bacon. You can never get enough bacon. They don't have fries, they have Kennebec Fries. Which must mean fries with some green stuff on them that don't taste.I can handle the fries. Finally we went to the drink machine. There isn't Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, etc. It is "Main Root" brands. We tried the Diet Coke (I have to watch my magnificent figure.). The Diet Coke tastes like watered down Diet Coke. Just get a Coke machine with some Dr. Pepper in it. Can you imagine a restaurant in Texas and no Dr. Pepper. I have some kin folk that would go to war over not having Dr. Pepper.

The burger had a good Angus patty. The other stuff was almost missing. There is some kind of secret sauce on it, but let's just say it was mayo. At Whataburger I get a heaping helpin of onions, mustard, etc. The fries were pretty decent but not just real special.

Overall, this was a pretty good meal, but nothing here would make me stop going to Whatburger. The meal for 1 burger, fries and two drinks was $18. I can eat at Whataburger several times on that amount.
