Corner Bakery Irving

The wifey and I had some very important bidness to tend to in Las Colinas last night. We went to an old person's convention (aka rock concert by a 60's early 70's band). Since once again we had to cross Dallas in rush hour traffic, we decided to do some more Turtle Crawl early and eat dinner near the venue. Our bidness was at the new Toyota Music Pavillion at the Irving Music Factory. They show that there are 25 restaurants in the the Music Factory, but only 4 are open now. The four are priced way above redneck wages or they serve sissy food. Either way I had to find a dinner option in the area. After careful review we locked on to The Corner Bakery. I have clients that eat at one of these regular so I was compelled to check it out.

The Corner Bakery is an upscale Panera Bread but with man food. If you are eating in a Panera you are eating sissy food. I am just saying. The Corner Bakery has the sissy food, but it also has some options that could qualify as man food. The place is finished out like a high class joint. Not your usual redneck hangout. However, I didn't come here to look at the walls or the furniture. Give me some grub.

After careful review of the menu, I locked onto the Linguine and Meatballs, also served with Garlic bread. You have to select either cafe or entree size. Why can't they just say small and really small? I asked the order taker the difference in size. He showed me a bowl about a foot in diameter and 3 inches deep as the cafe size, and a bowl about 6 inches deep as the entree size. So I am picturing one foot diameter 3 inches deep of linguine and meatball, my diet was saying you better not go for entree size. Of course I ordered Texas tea. We don't drink water in Texas, we drink iced tea. When they delivered the food of my choosing, I was greatly disappointed. Yes the bowl was the size I was shown, but it was filled to less than half the bowl. I have coffee cups that would hold more food. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. So next time I will ask for a bucket of linguine. The food was ok, but no real good tastes jumping out at me. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. The garlic toast had very little zing. I suspect some sissy's have infiltrated this joint and taken all of the zinging tastes out of their food.

Overall this was ok, but for a person that likes some zing, not so much. Givem a 7.0778975465

The Toyota Music Pavillion was really nice. I have been to the Verizon in Grand Prairie many times and it can't compare. However, why do they not put enough restrooms in these places? I am looking forward to going back to The Pavillion.

Hoffbrau Steaks - Haltom City & Tolbert's - Grapevine

It's Friday night and it is time to take the wifey out on the town. Especially when I am about to go into hiding for 3 months. You know the Revenuers come this time of year every year.

A while back a friend of mine in the Garland area gave me a gift card to Hoffbrau Steaks knowing that I live in Skeeterville. The nearest Hoffbrau to Skeeterville is in Haltom City which is across the world from here.In our infinite wisdom we decided to do the Turtle Crawl across Dallas, Arlington, Irving, to North Fort Worth, we even got there on the same night. Next time I am going to take a short cut and go East on Garland Road to Hwy 78. Hwy 78 North to Farmersville and catch Hwy 380 West. Boogie on 380 to Hwy 121 in Lewisville then into North Fort Worth. Certainly a less stressful drive. Warning whatever lane you are in on a Fort Worth freeway, it is about to be Exit Only.

Outside of Joe T Garcia's I don't know much about the culinary options in Fort Worth. However, it seemed like all of Fort Worth was holed up here in Haltom City. We were told the wait was only 25 minutes. That must be the max a customer will take without leaving. Trust me, we waited a lot longer than 25 minutes. Finally we get seated.

After a careful review of the menu, this isn't a redneck friendly joint. No fried bologna, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly (or banana's). Looks like I am in trouble here. The last few meals I have eaten with CBoss  which means Pizza and only Pizza. So my calarie count was off the charts the last couple of days. In my desire to protect my muscle hardened body, I went for the Texican Salad. I have to like the name because I commonly refer to myself as a Texican. With all the mexican food I eat by now I have to be part Mexican. This was a good salad it had all the usual suspects including guacamole. The salad was served with Spicy Ranch dressing and this was almost as tasty as Jalapeno Ranch at Chuy's (and that's good). Throw in a couple of rolls and this was a pretty decent meal. The wifey had a Steak, bake potato and salad. Here review says the salad was a little better than Outback's because of the Spicy Ranch, but the steak and baked potato was about the same.

This was a fairly good meal, givem a 823546878.

After dinner we had decided to do the Skip Jive to Tolberts in Grapevine.  Tolberts is on Main St in Grapevine. I had not been in this part of our great state in a good while. This area is pretty nice with a number of grub joints. Tolberts is a restaurant and watering hole with a live band every night. Tonight the 8 Track Band was playing. You know that with a name like 8 Track Band they play oldies. They really did a bang up job playing oldies. Lot of fun here. Our waitress came to take out order and I ordered Two Diet Cokes, a Chocolate Mouse Cake for the wifey and me a Peach Cobbler. You should have seen the stinky face the waitress gave me when she realized I wasn't going to be continually ordering pricey drinks all night. What she didn't know, I am big tipper in these kind of situations. The Chocolate Mouse Cake couldn't have been too bad. Within a minute or two of the waitress bringing it, it was GONE. A good redneck likes peach cobbler. This was a goodun. The ice cream was not Blue Bell, but it was pretty good, and the peach cobbler was yummy. We will be going back here, just not via Haltom City.

Cheesecake Factory-Northwest to Babbs BBQ

Yep, I might be crazy. Just saying. Beat ya to it. I may also be larger around the middle than I should be. But life can be fun. So it's Saturday night and it was time to tear the town up. The wifey and her best friend (who is a Joy to be around) advised me that I was taking them out on the town. Being the smart man I am, "Yes Ma'am" is my answer.

They decided for me that I wanted to go to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner and Cheesecake!!! So I had to put on my middle class almost decent costume. The Cheesecake Factory is a yuppie, millennials, think I am rich kind of hangout/restaurant. I am sure they would not be excited about a hick from the suburbs dragging in and giving it a bad reputation. So thus the costume.

We had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. I spent the 45 minutes next to the cheesecake display drooling over which one I would choose tonight.

Finally we get seated and it is time to order. My ladies indicated that they would be splitting an entree and I was on my own to get what I wanted.  This just doesn't happen everyday. Most of the time, the wifey checks out the menu and informs me what I am splitting with her. So we are off to a good start.

I went for the Factory Nachos. I sure hope those nachos was made in the kitchen and not some factory in Weatherford. These are some pretty yummy nachos. The chips have a different crunchiness and they have a different taste. Both a good. The nachos as stacked with guacamole, sour cream, chicken, cheese, sauce, and other unidentified ingredients. These are some goood nachos. But nachos is not why I am here.

It came dessert time. I had stared at the 30th anniversary cheesecake for 45 minutes. So I had no choice but to give it a whirl. Talking about rich. This thang is chocolate stacked on top of chocolate with a chocolate topping. I may share an entree, but I am NOT sharing Cheesecake. I ate the whole thing. Talking about the sweats. About 3/4's of the way through I was beginning the sweet sweats. It was so great that I was miserable.

This was a very good meal. Givem a 8.9246546.

Now the next step is what makes Mitcho Legendary. We left the Cheesecake Factory and went to Babb's Brothers BBQ. Can you imagine eating a full meal at the Cheesecake Factory and then going straight to a BBQ joint.  This is almost as good as going from an all you can eat catfish joint to Dairy Queen for a large Blizzard. Actually we didn't eat BBQ tonight, just faking you out. But we did get a Coke A Cola drink and listen to the Blues for a couple of hours. This is my kind of place. If you work it right, you can up grab a mike and take the show over. Last time was an Asian dude who did La Bamba with the band just by going up and grabbing the mike. And he was amazingly good. Tonight a lady decided she needed to sing Happy Birthday to a member of her party. So she goes up grabs the mike and sings Happy Birthday. I am going to have to start practicing. I need to take over the show sometime in the near future. By the way, their BBQ is good.

Next time.
