Matt's Ranch Martinez Restaurant - Lakewood

As you can tell from the name of my food blog that I am an East Dallas boy. Spent my formative years terrorizing this part of town. And of course I went to the best high school in North Texas, Woodrow Wilson. So Lakewood is an old haunt. I remember the days of buying 15 tacos at Jack in the Box at about 15 cents per taco. JIB was the hangout back then. But I digress.

Due to the Corona with no Lyme, life is kind of boring. There isn't much you can go do and no other states want us to travel there. I actually got rejected recently at a hotel in Arkansas because I was from Texas. No worries, I have been rejected before. Hello Victoria, TX.

So me and the wifey after spending all day in the house are trying to find interesting places to do dinner. Over the last few years, I have had a number of friends tell me that Matt's Rancho was the bomb. Being a foodie that had never been there, it was time to check er out. So I told the wifey aka chipper that we were doing the Mexican thing tonight. Being the hungry submissive wife she is at dinner time, she gave in and said let's boogie. We did the Wildcat Victory Dance to MRM Restaurant.

Note if the pandemic is not happening, I am just guessing parking is a big problem here. However, no problem tonight. We had our choice of tables in the place. Probably only 4 or 5 tables taken in the whole place. So of course seeing that I am a redneck, they took us to the very back of the place in a booth with high backs so no one could see us. Can you blame em.

The waitress brought us our teas and chips and salsa. The chips are a cross from the normal Mexican restaurant chip and El Fenix chips. So they were actually pretty good. The salsa had a good mild flavor with an after burn. So overall, things are going well.

After an intense study of the menu I went for the Traditional Red Enchiladas. This is cheese and onion enchiladas covered with red sauce. Being topped with extra onions, this was a keeper. The red sauce was mighty good. It also came with a guacamole salad, which I enjoyed also. The rice had a nice spicey flavor and the refried beans were better than most. Also, Chipper got Charro beans with her meal and allowed me a minor taste and they were very good.

Overall, this was some good fixins. So grab up a few of your friends and at least one Woodrow Wilson Wildcat and head off to Matt's Rancho Martinez. You won't be disappointed. And if you have time and are really lucky, you could drive by Woodrow and observe a great high school.of yesterday and today.

Piefalootin - Garland

The wifey had her hair appointment today. Being a stupid redneck man, I don't mess with hair appointments. I am stupid, but not that stupid. I am not sure how the conversation went, but it ended with a recommendation for us to go to Piefalootin. The hair stylist advised it would put Pie Emporium to shame. Now that is pretty big boots to fill.

The wifey came home and informed me that dinner tonight would be Pie. Being the loving husband, I went for the Pie immediately. Didn't even have to think about it. You know I wallow in the bottom of the food pyramid until it comes to desserts. Especially cheesecake and pie.

Piefallotin only sells pies. What an impressive list of pie choices on their website. For the by the slice service, you have about 12 options to choose from each day. I guarantee you will like something you could savor. Apparently the choices change each day. So I need to go back everyday to try all the choices. There goes the diet for a while.

So after a unanimous vote of 1 to 0, we did the bump to Garland to Piefalootin for dinner. The wifey said should we go get a burger first. Is she kidding, Pie first, then we will figure out the boring part of the dinner tonight.

So upon arrival we start studying the options of the day. The sign was very confusing, How do you pick just one. There is a 3 sample size option, but who wants to be limited to sample size. After a long stair, I finally decided to go for Caramel Sawdust. Caramel, coconut, lots of crust, and lots of good luvin. The wifey went for "What's up Buttercup". Basically a Reese's peanut butter cup pie. She is a big fan of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

The wifey decided after the first bite that my score was a 10. Man this is heaven on earth. She is right, as always, giv'em a 10.  Bye Bye Emporium Pie. You are an afterthought now.

As God blesses us, Piefalootin happens to be across Shiloh from the car repair shop that fixes all of our cars. So now, I can take a car or pick up a car and take a piece of pie home. I know how to play this game.

So if your sweet tooth is wanting to be comforted, grab up your favorite buddies and sashay to Piefallootin. While you are there, pick me up a piece and drop it off at my house on your way home. PIck any flavor, you can't go wrong.

Butterscotch Cream Pie
Peach Cobbler
Two of my next victims.

Afterwards, we went to Bubba's 33 for onion rings. Now that is well rounded meal.
