Ozona - Greenville Ave Dallas

Yesterday the wifey read an article on the world wide web that indicated that D Magazine had picked Ozona as the best Chicken Fried Steak in Dallas. So the wifey got excited and decided we had to go grab some chicken fried steak. So we decided that traffic would be less and parking easier to go at lunch, so we did the Pachanga to Ozona for lunch today. Ozona is just north of Mockingbird and there was a good bit of parking. However, if you went on Friday night in the spring or summer, I suspect parking would be an issue. When we drove up, my first thought was, omg I have never seen a restaurant with so much patio tables for outside eating. Once we got inside I could see that there is even more patio tables out back. This place has got to be some kind of cool people hangout in the spring or summer. Of course I am sure Grove Rat rednecks are probably not invited. Of course today it is wet and cold, so no one was sitting outside.

The wifey had indicated that the lunch portion of CFS was only $6.95. When we got to the menu it is $9.95. So I am wondering about the input that got me here. So when I got home I looked up the D Magazine article. The article was written in 2007 and the economy was in the tank. So hello to 2015.

So of course we ordered a CFS to split. The waitress suggested we order the dinner portion so that there would be enough. That was a good call. We also ordered the garlic mashed taters and fried okra. The waitress had suggested the okra and said it was very good. She was right.

So when the food came, the dinner portion divided in half was about the right amount for each of us. There was a large portion of taters, so we had more taters than we needed. Of course we ate it all anyway.

The CFS was pretty good. The patty was the thickest I ever remember eating. Some parts of it could have used a little more tenderizing, but overall it was about right. The breading was a little thin and very greasy. Being a redneck, I like my breading thick as thieves and limited fat taste. So this was a good CFS, but it was not the best in Dallas. Of course in discussion, the wifey said she liked Luby's CFS better than this. Give me a break. In the future the wifey will not be consulted on chicken fried steak matters, as her opinion has proven to be questionable.

The garlic mashed taters had a hint of garlic and were very creamy. This was some good mashed taters. The fried okra was very good, a good amount of breading with a good taste to it.

Overall, givn em a 7.651
