Fred's Tx Cafe - Bluebonnet Cir Fort Worth

Well work has slowed to a crawl for a day or two. Knowing that a day is coming very soon where I will have to work around the clock 7 days a week for about 3 months, we better party as much as possible in between naps.

So the wifey wanted to do a trip for lunch. We started the conversation considering Kitchens Hardware in Mineola. Yes, a burger joint in the middle of a hardware store. How cool is that. The other option was a Mexican restaurant in Fort Worth, which we don't know the name but we know where it is. This restaurant serves chips that are thicker than tortillas and made from the same flour, but they are about 1" in diameter. They are very unique and very tasty. So the chips won out over burgers. So we did the Skank to Fort Worth.

You can't miss the Bluebonnet Circle, it is an ole timey circle with businesses all around and a number of streets coming and going. We take University from I-30 and go south to the circle just past TCU. When we got to the circle on the first pass around, the Mexican restaurant was gone. In its place is a place named Fred's Tx CafĂ©. From the outside it looked like a bar. The only other restaurant on the circle was a new Mexican restaurant. So after several more rounds on the circle the wifey decided we would go to Fred's because the parking lot was full, including 6 Ft Worth police cars. So we had to park about a block and a half down a neighboring street because there were so many cars here. Actually there may have been more cars than people. When we went in, yep it is a bar and hamburger joint. So I guess God intended for us to eat a burger today. So we grabbed a table.

The burgers here were a little pricy ($10.00 for a burger). So I ordered the basic burger. When it came, no joke it was at least 6 inches tall. I am guessing the patty was either a 5/8 or 3/4 pound patty. The lettuce was an inch thick. It had some onion, but it could have used a bunch more onion. There was plenty of mustard, which is a good for Mitcho. The bun was an inch thick on top and bottom. Overall, this was a pretty good burger.

The fries were almost identical to the fries that I make in the camp ground. Which happen to be my favorite fries. Yum, yum!!! These guys have stolen my recipe.

Overall, this was a good burger and great fries. The only downsides were they didn't have my chips and two burgers and soft drinks was almost $30.

Givn Fred's a whopping 7.85. Skip the drive to Fort Worth, go to the local Whataburger and get almost as good a meal for about $10.
