Oscar Delta - Rockwall

Now this is an upscale restaurant that I have heard a lot about. Bud is constantly suggesting we go there. So we finally broke down and did the Ghoomar dance to Oscar Delta in Rockwall. I am sure if you look close near the entrance there is a sign "No Rednecks allowed". This is high cotton upscale. I have to admit the decorations were attractive and interesting. The service was efficient.

In studying the menu, I decided to risk the tex-mex enchiladas. Can't go too far wrong if you are in Texas. Now Enchiladas in Virginia is not necessarily a good risk.

So the Enchiladas come with dirty rice, salad and one side. In studying the sides, there isn't a bean one. What!!!!! Who ever heard of fried Okra and rice with your enchiladas. So I asked the waitress regarding this obvious oversight. She immediately informed me that this is not a Mexican restaurant. Excuse me, they have enchilada's, at least 3 different kinds of tacos, Papi's Burger starts with chorizo and avocado, grilled avocados, TX Trinity is red salsa, queso and guacamole, etc. There sure is a lot of Mexican food here to not have BEANS. So I had fried okra with my enchiladas.

The meal started with a salad with jalapeno ranch dressing (must be Missouri jalapeno's, can't be Mexican!!). The salad was basically lettuce, but the jalapeno ranch dressing was a winner. It had a nice after bite to it. This was a good.

The dirty rice had a good amount of green onions which greatly added to the flavor. Normally rice is rice, but this was a good.

The fried okra had a crust more like chicken fried steak than most other okra I have had. This had a really good flavor and crunch. Another good.

The enchiladas were in a tortilla that was thicker than normal and this added to the flavor. The cheese was jack cheese and was ok but not overly flavorful. The downfall here was the chili covering the enchiladas. I was expecting a fairly spicy chili, I was disappointed. The chili here had virtually no spicy taste at all. So you could ground hamburger meat, pour tomato sauce over it and it would be spicier than this chili. That's sad. We were doing pretty good till we got to the enchiladas.

NOTE: The price is upscale a little bit.

Overall givn Oscar Delta a 7.34.
