The Dairyette has been in business since 1956. This is a drive-in hamburger joint complete with car hops. For those of newer generations, a drive-in with car hops, means you can drive up under the awning and a car hop will come out and take your order. In a few minutes she will come back with your food on a tray that attaches to the door of your car. It is best to go to a drive-in in a convertible. At the Dairyette you can also go inside to eat. The reason to go to the Dairyette is the homemade Root Beer in a frozen mug. Man is it good!!!!
So the wifey wanted to know what lunch plans were today. I have been thinking about the Dairyette for about a month. How can I have done 97 reviews and have not been to the Dairyette. I must apologize to my readers for this oversight. So it was time we did the Conga dance to the Dairyette.
I ordered a hamburger, onion rings and Large Root Beer in a mug. (NOTE: Up until about 3 years ago, you would get free refills on Root Beer. However, about 3 years ago the ownership changed and the refill policy became a dollar for refills. So go ahead and order the large mug at the beginning, you are going to want it.) The hamburger is a very good hamburger. Lots of mustard and onions. Of course the wife ordered a sissy burger (no mustard, yes to mayo). The burger has a very good taste and is good size. I rate it close to a Whataburger, which is a good thing. The onion rings were a little disappointing. First of all, for $2.75 we only got 6 or 7 rings. The onions were cut very fat and large. I prefer smaller cut onions. The batter was pretty good. Of course the Root Beer was very good.
The meal gets a 7.5. The downside here is cost. This meal cost $18.00 with tax and tip. The same meal at Whataburger would be $9.00. So the Dairyette is a place to go for memories and a special meal. For me, my everyday place is Whataburger.
