This morning I worked like a rented mule in the yard. That's right I worked 10 minutes rested 20 minutes, etc and called it a hard morning. So at lunch time, I needed to be fed to get my strength back for a hard fought afternoon in the yard. So the wifey suggested we go to a new burger joint that just opened up in Mesquite. A very good friend told us she had heard of it and about where it was. So we did the Bunny Hop over to South Mesquite, next to the Tom Thumb to the Burger Pop.
This place is very small and no sign up where the other businesses signs are, so you can miss it pretty easy. So look at door signs, not the signs up above.
So we walk in the first thing I notice is all burgers are 1/2 pound. I knew right away I was going to be sharing, but you know there is always hope. I had zeroed in on a burger with jalapenos and two kinds of cheese. Looked interesting. Then of course here it comes, "do you want to share a burger". Ok, so just stop reading the menu. So SHE ordered a hamburger and seasoned fries.
Now this will only be 1/2 of a review, since I only ate 1/2 of the meal. So the burger comes and it is pretty big. The wifey cuts it into half and it no longer is very big at all. The meat was decent, but no special sauces, flavored meat, etc. Just a burger. My half had one pickle and very little onion. Now you know Mitcho likes a lot of onion. So basically just a plain ole burger. The seasoned fries had some pepper on them. Give me a break. Seasoned means some chili powder, meat seasoning, something, not just pepper. Also, the fries were thick cut. Mitcho likes thin cut so that each fry is crunchy. No crunch here.
Burger Pop is an attempt to be an upscale burger joint. You can tell by the prices. The only other thing they have going is the size of the burger. But upscale also means upscale taste. No attempt at that here.
If you are marooned (no pun on Mesquite High School Skeeters which are maroon) in South Mesquite and you have a hunger to solve, then Burger Pop is better than nothing. I am not aware of a Whataburger down here and the intersection before here has a McDonald's and a Sonic, so Burger Pop might be the best option.
