La Calle Doce Lakewood

Happy Valentines Day to ya.

First of all, I am just too good and romantic to Chipper (aka Wifey). About 6 days ago, she came into the office and informed me what I was getting her for Valentines, including brand names, details, etc. Three days before Valentines I trot out to the store and get those exact items. I am not a dummy. If you will note I also didn't wait till the last minute. I am not going to be one of those guys in line at the grocery store at 8:00 PM on Valentines night holding a can of Pork & Beans in the checkout line because all of the flowers and candy were gone at noon and the chili and hot links were gone by 5:00.

On Valentines morning Chipper gave me a very cute Valentines card and a gift card to HER favorite restaurant. She just luves me more than I deserve.

As you know, Chipper and me go to the First Fried Chicken Eatin Mostly Non-Denominational and Somewhat Baptist Church. Our Community Group (aka Sunday School Class, we just have had enough class, it's time to communitize) decided we were going to a Valentines dinner together. This is a communist plot by all the wives in the group to get their hubbies to take them to dinner on Valentines. So the women folk all plotted together and selected La Calle Doce for our romantic meal. Apparently La Calle Doce stands for Mexican dinners made with seafood items you never heard of. Of course for me, when you get past mud cat, creek crawdads and crappie, I don't have much experience with the finer seafood selections. So you know I was excited to go there. Here is how unusual this place is, the waitress brought out an entree and was going to hand it to the highly respectable gentleman next to Chipper (not me, I was on the other side) and told him it was _________ (don't remember what she said) and he said it wasn't his that his was something that started with a "P". Yea, he couldn't say what it was, he just knew it started with a "P". I was impressed.

So finally after doing serious detective work Chipper found fajitas that were the old staples, Yardbird and Beef. All of our grandparents raised Yardbirds and cows, so we prefer those servings. So Chipper ordered the fajitas for us to eat. I did get to select to get flour tortillas. I am telling you, she is just too good to me.

The chicken and beef were both very good. Great taste. Plenty of onion and bell peppers. The pinto beans and rice were just ordinary. As I have noted I was sitting next to Chipper, so I only got a few chips but they were average and the salsa was decent. The waitress did a great job considering she had 20 old adults to take care of. Over the evening we had some great company, told some great stories (some of them were true) and listened occasionally.

All of the unusual seafood eaters in our group raved about their meals, so this must be a good place. As for Mitcho enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, tacos, and plenty of bowls of chips.
