Uno Pizzeria - Downtown Fort Worth

I am blessed with 6 wonderful grand kids. I see my job as the redneck granddad to teach them all things redneck. They need to know the important redneck activities, spittin, whittling, passing gas, hopping freights, etc. The 4 oldest are old enough to take on adventures and learning experiences. I decided it was time to ride the rails. Before you go call the sheriff or CPS, we bought tickets and everything. We didn't hop a freight, this TIME. Stay tuned.

The wifey and me gathered up Double Digits (formerly known as CBoss), Darlin, King L, and Precious and off we go. We went to the nearest Dart train station (the Dallas commuter train) and bought all day regional pass tickets, no freeloading in front of the grands. We rode the Dart into downtown Dallas to Union Station. We exited the Dart train and got on the Trinity Rail Express  that goes to Fort Worth. The TRE is similar to an Amtrak train that goes from city to city, so this is the real train experience. Nothing is too good for the grands. We got off of the TRE at the Intermodel Transit station in Downtown Fort Worth (basically a huge bus and train station). We caught Molley the Trolley around Downtown to Uno's.

I have heard a lot about Chicago Deep Dish pizza. I have to confess I am a thin crust kind of guy. We were so poor growing up that everything was thin crust. My son had recommended Uno's and said it was known as the best Chicago Deep Dish pizza in North Texas. So that gave us a destination for our train ride. While ordering my whole gang wanted thin crust, but I had to try the Deeper dish, so I ordered a personal size pizza. I ordered the Numero Uno. If it is number one, it has to be good. This is a pizza with sausage, pepperoni, onions, peppers, mushroomos, tomato sauce and cheese. I really couldn't tell there was sausage or pepperoni on it, but the other stuff was all there. The crust was very different from any thick crust pizza I have eaten. It seemed almost like it had been fried, it had a good taste and texture. Next time throw on some sausage and pepperoni and you may have something.

We ordered a couple of pepperoni thin crust pizzas for the kiddos. After my pizza I had several slices of the thin crust pepperoni. The thin crust was a good crust and of course cheese and pepperoni is always good.

Be aware that this is a classy downtown Fort Worth pizzeria. It is not cheap. I would recommend you go by the local Car Title Payday Loan shop or go see Vinny the Dollar in Little Sicily and get some extra cash, you are going to need it.

For my buddy Kyle, no worries, this pizza is nowhere as good as the Deluxe Pizza at Pizza Getti on Buckner just north of 30.
