The Slow Bone - Irving Blvd Dallas

The wifey is a highly educated classy gal that occasionally has a little redneck in her blood. She is a descendant of  Fannin County farmers, enough said. So the last few weeks she has been craving the best fried chicken in North Texas. She has been on a hunt for the best. She got from good sources that the best was in downtown Dallas and we had to go. The problem was the place closed two years ago. So back to the drawing boards and more research. So she finally decided The Slow Bone was the Shangri La of fried chicken. All I have heard was fried chicken, fried chicken and fried chicken. So at lunch today she informed me it was fried chicken day. There was nothing I could do but grab the gusto and do the chicken dance with her to The Slow Bone.

The Slow Bone is a small old building with limited parking in an old part of Irving Blvd near downtown. It is mainly a BBQ joint and it looks like one in everyway.  You won't be running into any corporate presidents in this place. So this is safe haven for an upstanding redneck.

Of course the wifey ordered fried chicken. I wasn't letting her out of there without eating fried chicken after all I have heard lately. I went for the Cilantro Sausage, Mitcho is a Sausage kind of guy. We also ordered fried okra, beans and hush puppies.

The wifey reports that the fried chicken was not smoked, but some of the juiciest she has had. She liked her chikin likin. The sausage had a good flavor, not quite spicey enough for me, but better than most normal sausage. The fried okra was some of the best I have eaten in many years. The next time I go I am ordering a pint of okra just to eat with my lunch. Man this stuff seamed like it was fresh from the garden and was battered like grandma use to do it. Not the ole frozen stuff you normally get. Luv me some of their okra. The beans were doctored up nicely and had a smoked flavor. This is a plus. Most BBQ joints just have basic pinto beans with no added zip. The hush up puppies also had a smoked flavor and were very good.

So it may be a drive for you, but it could be worthwhile to take a shot at The Slow Bone, tell them the Wifey sent you.
