Matt's Ranch Martinez Restaurant - Lakewood

As you can tell from the name of my food blog that I am an East Dallas boy. Spent my formative years terrorizing this part of town. And of course I went to the best high school in North Texas, Woodrow Wilson. So Lakewood is an old haunt. I remember the days of buying 15 tacos at Jack in the Box at about 15 cents per taco. JIB was the hangout back then. But I digress.

Due to the Corona with no Lyme, life is kind of boring. There isn't much you can go do and no other states want us to travel there. I actually got rejected recently at a hotel in Arkansas because I was from Texas. No worries, I have been rejected before. Hello Victoria, TX.

So me and the wifey after spending all day in the house are trying to find interesting places to do dinner. Over the last few years, I have had a number of friends tell me that Matt's Rancho was the bomb. Being a foodie that had never been there, it was time to check er out. So I told the wifey aka chipper that we were doing the Mexican thing tonight. Being the hungry submissive wife she is at dinner time, she gave in and said let's boogie. We did the Wildcat Victory Dance to MRM Restaurant.

Note if the pandemic is not happening, I am just guessing parking is a big problem here. However, no problem tonight. We had our choice of tables in the place. Probably only 4 or 5 tables taken in the whole place. So of course seeing that I am a redneck, they took us to the very back of the place in a booth with high backs so no one could see us. Can you blame em.

The waitress brought us our teas and chips and salsa. The chips are a cross from the normal Mexican restaurant chip and El Fenix chips. So they were actually pretty good. The salsa had a good mild flavor with an after burn. So overall, things are going well.

After an intense study of the menu I went for the Traditional Red Enchiladas. This is cheese and onion enchiladas covered with red sauce. Being topped with extra onions, this was a keeper. The red sauce was mighty good. It also came with a guacamole salad, which I enjoyed also. The rice had a nice spicey flavor and the refried beans were better than most. Also, Chipper got Charro beans with her meal and allowed me a minor taste and they were very good.

Overall, this was some good fixins. So grab up a few of your friends and at least one Woodrow Wilson Wildcat and head off to Matt's Rancho Martinez. You won't be disappointed. And if you have time and are really lucky, you could drive by Woodrow and observe a great high school.of yesterday and today.
