Our friends told us we had to go to The Grist Mill Restaurant to eat. So we did. When we put our name on the list they said it would be10 to 15 minute wait. What they really meant was get a hotel room, you are going to be here a while. On the second day they again said it would be 10 to 15 minutes wait. Who are they kidding? On the third day Jesus rose from the grave and at the end of the day we got a table. I was tired, frustrated and no longer Hungary. We decided to split the chicken fried steak and pinto beans. The chicken fried steak was decent but far from the best I have eaten. The pinto beans were doctored up nicely, so a good.
NOTE: The Gristmill is on the Guadalupe river so in the summer time it is probably a pretty place, but in winter after dark it might as well be the Trinity River.
The manager did comp us our ice teas, but too little too late. I would give the food a 7.1437, but after the wait they get a 3.5.
Next we went to Greene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas. The buildings looks like most of it is from the late 1800's. There is an add on the wall for the Ford Dealership and the phone number is "61". Pool tables in the back, dance floor and bar. Overall this is a neat place to see. I hear there is no air conditioning and there is very little heat. Don't come here hungary, this is a watering hole only. Normally the music is country, but tonight's band was The Aaron Stephens Band and they play rock and soul. They were really good. We had a great time here. I couldn't get the wifey to leave. Grab you up your favorite gal or your sister and get down to Greene Hall, you won't regret it.
