Normas Cafe - Oak Cliff

As you know we go to The First Fried Chicken Eaten Mostly Non-Denominational somewhat Baptist Church. Our church has a policy to not have church services on the last Sunday of each year. So they are turning all of the rednecks loose on all the other surrounding churches. There may be a game plan there. As for the wifey and me, we have been long time friends with Pastor and Sister Smith at Bibleway Baptist Church in East Oak Cliff. We believe and support in the ministry of the Smith's to East Oak Cliff.

Since we were in Oak Cliff, we decided to eat lunch in Oak Cliff. The wifey presented a number of possibilities but Norma's was on the list, so none of the other choices were given any consideration. Besides, if you claim to be from Dallas, you have eaten at Norma's. Till now the wifey has been a Dallas wannabee, but now she is legit. As for me, my dad took me here back when I was a teenager. You know when the paint on the walls were new and the pictures were current events. So if your birth certificate says you were born in Dallas and you haven't eaten at Norma's, you need to go there to complete the process and be a real Dallasite. The other place every Dallasite should eat at at least once is on the east side of Dallas and is the Circle Grill, but that is for a different blog.

Norma's is small building that they have crammed into it the maximum number of booths. There are even booths in the area where the waitresses get coffee, tea, cokes, etc. I mean they have maximized every foot. They have been there since 1956. The parking is even smaller. But God was on our side this trip, as a car pulled out from right in front as we drove up. So recognizing God's grace we took the spot.

This is the queen of home cooking. All the home cooking classics and PIE.

The wifey got the chicken fried steak and gave good marks to the breading which is a must. The meat was a little tougher than it should be, but she thought it was pretty good overall.

I went for the Frito Pie. You have to be from Texas to really appreciate Frito Pie. Frito's, chili, onion, jalapeno's, cheese, etc. How can you go wrong. Man this was some good grub. The chili had a very good flavor, not Wick Fowler good, but Good. It needed more onion, but you know Mitcho really likes the onion. I will be making a return engagement to get me some more Frito Pie.

They also brought us rolls and cornbread. Man the cornbread was grandma good. The rolls were very tasty also.

Now for PIE. I went for the cherry pie. This was about as good a cherry pie as I have ever eaten. The wifey went for chocolate & peanut butter pie. It was gone before I realized she was eating it. I didn't ask but it had to be a Good.

Happy New Year
