Book Club Cafe-On the square in Rockwall

This morning we were up in the church, you know The First Fried Chicken Eating Mostly Non-Denominational somewhat Baptist church (Clife-Rockwall). After church of course the main thing is lunch. Our church is in Rockwall, so most of the time lunch happens in Rockwall, you know Burgers (Joe Willey's), Tacos & Burritos, enchiladas; the redneck staples. Approaching the square today the wifey pulled a dirty trick and said we were going to Book Club Café. Of course she waited to the last minute to keep me from thinking of a good reason to not go and not get in trouble. For this here redneck it takes a while to conjure up a good excuse that doesn't get me whopped with the skillet. We all know that the name Book Club Café means books and foo foo food. Not an ounce of grease in the house. I am pretty sure that books allowed in the place do not include Mad Magazine, Comic books, or Sports Illustrated (swim suit edition). I am expecting Great Expectations and all those other classics that I used Cliff Notes to get past in English. As for food, I am expecting La Madeleine faire, quiches, omelettes, etc. But I do want the wifey to be nice to me, so I took a hard left and did the jitterbug stroll to the Rockwall square. I did try the parking as an issue to save me, but wouldn't you know it, a spot right in front. All the rest were full, but I guess I only needed one.

As we go in, there are no books anywhere. Once we were seated we were told they made their own coffee, syrups, drinks, buns, pastries, and they had gluten free and vegan faire. I am excited, I didn't hear anything about jalapeno's, chili, hot sauce, onion, etc. This is going to be fun.

I was surprised. The first thing I see on the menu is burgers. They are expensive, house made buns with gluten free and vegan options. But they do have a burger. Then, next thing I see is Hot Dawgs!! Now we are getting somewhere.  The first dog I lock in on has onions, jalapeno's and pico. This is what I am talking about. The wifey looks farther and there is a dawg with sauerkraut, mustard and sweet relish. Sweet. No need to looking any further (they do have the omelette's also). The wifey orders a dawg with bacon. Sounds pretty good to me. I ordered the sauerkraut dawg with chips (Der Kommissar).

The home made bun was tasty, the weiner was a pretty standard weiner (maybe they should try a Johnsonville braut?????), mustard and loaded with sweet pickle relish. As for the sauerkraut, they need to get a new recipe. This was slightly doctored cabbage. Sauerkraut should have a strong sour punch, the stronger the better. That isn't happening here. The chips were a pretty standard chip.
Considering what I was expecting, this was a good lunch. Not the best dawg, but pretty good and it was not quiche.

Givem a 7.5

Jesus is the reason for the season.

Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.

Jesus Christ is my Lord and Saviour
