Over the last 6 weeks I have worked my fingers to the bone. I mean I feel like a rented mule. However, I got some slack tonight so I decided it was time to kick my heels up and let my long hair down.. Our kids have been talking about Trinity Groves for the last year or so. We had never ventured there, so I asked the wifey to google it and see if there was something we would want to do. Her report back was BBQ & Blues. Say no more we got our boogey on. So we did the skanking on to Trinity Groves. Now parking is a problem, so if you figure it out, give me a shout.
By the time we got there Mike Babb & Friends were already playing. These guys were tight. Memphis & Nawlins don't have anything on these guys. They were two thumbs up good (I only have two thumbs). Chuck, BB and Stevie Ray would be proud of hearing these guys. They could really bang out the blues. They also encourage rug cutting. So if you got a special gal like I do, you could show her your moves. I don't have any, so I am a spectator. These guys really put on a good show. They interacted with the audience and just wanted to have fun. There is a watering hole here, but it really isn't prominent and you don't see much liquid refreshments.
This ain't no sissy French food (pardon my French to all of my readers in France and I have a decent number of readers in France). This is Texas man food. After a full day of punching cattle you don't want a soufflé, you want massive quantities of beef and sides.
So we did our normal BBQ thang. We get a two meat plate with brisket and sausage. Tonight we added bbq beans and onion straws. The brisket was lean, very tender and had a nice smoked flavor. This is top notch q here. The sausage had a nice spicey flavor also. On a roll. The bbq beans were the only weakness for the whole night. These were basically pork & beans. I need more spicey flavor than that. Then onion straws were just like I like em. This is some good luvin here.
So after we had eaten and listened to music for awhile, the wifey went over to the Cake Bar across the way and bought us each a piece of cake and brought them back to Babb's. No reason to give up listening to good music. I doubt that they really like other food brought in, but nobody said anything (of course I tipped the band enough for them to overlook my short comings). My piece of cake was Red Velvet cake. This thang was the size of a 10 gallion hat. Now in France that is amazingly big. In Texas it is just pretty good size. Great flavor and the icy was real yummy. Good idea wifey.
This was a good evening. Gonna go back. So if you like BBQ and the blues, then grab up your friends and head down to Trinity Groves. If you don't like BBQ and the blues, then go back to Illinois.
