Los Agaves 5 - Aarkadelphia

For the past several months, I have been way to close to the revenuers and corporate types. The wifey expressed recently that I was losing some of my redneckism. Now that is serious. She prescribed that we spend some time in Arkansas. You know you can get a year's supply in a 3 day weekend. So off we go to one of our favorite hangouts, Lake DeGray. Why did God put such a beautiful lake in Arkansas and this isn't the only one? So we did the Red River Jig to Lake DeGray. I didn't get around to going to Walmart this time, but you can learn a lifetime of Wisdom in an Arkansas Walmart. So we hung in most of our usual haunts this time around, but after reviewing Trip-you-up-Advisor.com I noticed a Mexican food place was the highest ranked restaurant in Arkadelphia with no really bad reviews. So being somewhat Tex-Mex the only right thing to do was to check it out, knowing that basically Mexican food doesn't exist outside of Texas. So off to Los Agaves we go.

This restaurant is very near downtown. It is in a fairly old building, but they have decorated it up nicely. You know this is a very nice place for Arkadelphia standards as it must have been prom night and they were all here for dinner. They seated us immediately and we had chips and salsa before we got seated good. That's a plus. The chips had a little better flavor than most Tex-Mex places. The best part about the salsa was that it came in a bottle, so you could refill your own bowl as many times as you wanted, which I did. At first the salsa tasted like tomato soup, but by the 3rd bowl it had a pretty decent taste.

It came time to order and we went for the combo fajitas, beef and chicken. My goodness, we ordered for one and that one must be a bigun. This was a very large plate of beef, chicken, onions, peppers, etc. This may be the largest plate of meat for one we have ever had. Both the beef and chicken were marinated very nicely. What a great taste. The setup was pretty much normal and nothing to brag about, but not a negative either. The only down side was the meal came with only 3 tortillas. I did ask for 3 more and they brought them out. They did charge a buck for the second round of tortillas, but the price of the entree was 3 or 4 dollars cheaper than in the Metromess. So no worries here.

At checkout the owner apologized for the service being a little slow and discounted the 2nd round of tortillas. The service was slow, but they were understaffed. The workers that were there could pick cotton for me any day. They were hustling. Of course because of the prom night guests, they were probably much busier than they expected. They were trying very hard.I have understanding for their plight especially since I had nothing to do the rest of the evening.

All in all, chipper and me agreed that this is the best Mexican food we have had outside of Texas. Now they would be middle of the road in North Texas, but consider what Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Alabama, California, Colorado , Montana, etc. call Mexican food, this was great.

So I now have to definitely stay two nights in the Arkadelphia/Lake DeGray area on our getaways. You know the first night I am going to Fish Net, but now I have to go to Los Agaves also.
