As you who have read very many of my blog posts, that I married waaaaaaay UP. I still don't understand why a high class Sunday go to meetin' gal would marry a redneck creek dweller is beyond me. But when God blesses you beyond your imagination you thank him for the blessings and don't question it. Not only did my purty marry me but has put up with me for 45 years now.
About a month ago she informed me that number 45 was coming and we were going to celebrate it large. The owner of our favorite pizza place (Pizza Getti on Buckner in Dallas) posted a picture of his family at Al Biernat's and that put the thought in purty's mind that this is the place for us to celebrate 45 trips around the sun together. As the happily married man I am, I said "yes maam". Of course I was thinking Pizza Gettin and then going to the Devils Bowl for dirt track racing, but some days you just say "yes maam" and roll with the flow.
You know the place is high class when there is no parking, you have to valet your car. So I am supposed to turn my highly tuned sports car over to this early twenty something and expect him to control it. Oh well there was no choice,
When the waiter brought us our Texas tea, he also brought 3 types of bread in the bowl. Before the waiter could get to the next table, the wifey had downed a slice of all 3 types. I had to guard the bowl so I could get some later. The bread got high marks. One of the breads was raisin bread which is the first time I have had this served in a restaurant but I have always enjoyed the raisin bread.
When the wifey made the reservation she told them we were celebrating our anniversary. Every employee in the place came by our table and wished us a happy anniversary. I am over the top service and appreciation for our business.
The wifey order a filet mignon and she reports it was the best steak she has ever eaten. Even better than fried squirrel. She also ordered garlic smashed red potatoes. As excited as she was over the steak,. not so much over the taters. She expected much more garlic spicy taste and it just wasn't there. Don't get me wrong red potatoes are always very good, but she had high expectations and they were not met.
I ordered the parmesan crusted red snapper. This was the closest to creek bottom mud cat I could find. I also ordered a house salad. The house salad was mixed greens with carrots and radishes. The mixed greens is something I don't get. Why do high class joints serve the weeds I am trying to get rid of out of my yard? Who knows. With the ranch dressing on top this was a very good salad. The red snapper was very good, but I kinda expected some high class seasoning that made it wow you. Not happening here. It was very good though.
Now to the dessert phase. This is where it gets serious. The wifey ordered Chocolate Fondue Cake and I ordered New York Cheesecake. Both were served with a lit candle and had Happy Anniversay written on each plate. A smooth move daddy-o.
The Chocolate Fondue Cake as oozing with molten chocolate. The wifey is a chocolatahaulic. So she was smiling ear to ear. She inhaled the cake is record time. Her serving came with chocolate chip gelato. The gelato was gone before I would realize she had ice cream on her plate. The New York Cheesecake was very good. It has a scoop of whipped cream and a strawberry sauce. This was as good as any regular cheesecake I have ever had. Of course at Cheesecake Factory they have non-regular cheesecakes that are to die for.
The servers were great and over the top friendly. This was easily one of the best experiences we have had in a very long time.
