Down in the crick I was tending to important things when the word was that the Revenuers were in the crick looking for copper lines and kettles. I had no choice but to get out of Dodge for a few days. I grabbed up the wifey and we took off for Rockettown. We have some folk down there.
One of my strong points is that I like to eat. I am a really big fan of the Czech Stop in the town of West, TX on I-35. But I don’t have a Czech place on I-45 going south. I had heard Ennis was a Czech community so it was time to Czech it out. A search came up with the Kolache Depot Bakery right next to I-45. We roll in there about lunch time and plenty haungry.
This place had a display case similar to the Czech Stop. So I am in bidness. I ordered a sausage and jalapeño kolache, a sausage, jalapeño and cheese kolache and a cinnamon roll.
The sausage was pretty good but could have been spicer. The jalapeño was barely detectable. But the make it or break it in a kolache is the fresh baked bread. Had I not eaten at the Czech Stop for 40 years, I would not have known better, but the bread did not measure up. Don’t get me wrong the bread was pretty good, but not oh my kolache good. So I left somewhat disappointed.
When I dug into the cinnamon roll I found one thing that was ok. It was pretty close to the competition. Not enough cinnamon but it was as sweet as you would want.
I am still looking for a Czech place on I-45. If you know of one please call me at BR549.
Givem a 7:0000123.
