Krispy Kreme Donuts - Reeses Peanut Butter and Chocolate

Over the weekend the Wifey and me spent some quality time with 4 of the grands, Lil Darlin, PNuggett, Precious, and DMoney. Since these kiddos are spending way too much time with their ultra citified parents, it is important that I spend quality time with them to teach them the redneck ways. So the best learning place is Dirt Track Car races. So the wifey, the 4 grands and me did the Hot Wheels to RPM Speedway on Friday night. It was very interesting, the girlies loved the racing even better than the boys. Go figure. Because we were out half the night, the grands spent the night with us.

The wifey is a huge fan of Reese's peanut butter and chocolate products. I mean all of them. So I planned to take the tribe to Krispy Kreme in Mesquite to test out the Reese's donuts. As you can tell from the picture above, the kiddos went for sprinkles on their donuts. You can also see that the wifey went straight at the Reese's donuts.

All of the kiddos report good things about their donuts, except DMoney who didn't like his. What was he thinking. I obviously am going to have to spend more quality time with him. (Of course I did get to eat his donut for him, so it wasn't all bad.) The wifey gave top notch reports for her two donuts, the chocolate and the peanut butter. I was allowed a few bites of each and they were very good.

So if you get a hankering for a good donut, you may want to get your sugar in gear and get to Krispy Kreme. Don't take all your buddies because if they are in line in front of you, they may buy all of them. How tragic could that be. (Note: I am still a big fan of the Kreme filled donuts at Dunkin Donuts.)

The Porch Swing - Mesquite Follow-up Re-Check

Being Sunday, my main wifey and me slid over to The First Fried Chicken Eaten Somewhat Baptist mostly Non-Denominational Church. As luck would have it, our sonny boy (Bud) was bringing the heat this morning (preaching). After church we had plans to meet my adopted other wife for lunch. We took a vote for lunch in which I never got around to voting not that it would have mattered. The girlies decided we would be doing the electric slide to The Porch Swing.

We had gone here back in February a few days after it opened. If you read my review from then, I wasn't that impressed.

The girlies had a chicken fried steak and they split it. In my last review, they had a long way to go to making this a good meal. Apparently they made the trip, because the girlies gave a good review of the CFS.

Recently I have been on an eating fest that makes it imperative that I lose a few pounds. Not so easy especially when they have pie. Since I had my eye on pie, I went for a vegetable plate. Salad, Broccoli Bliss, Mac and Cheesey and beans. All of these were pretty decent. You don't get excited about veggies, but if they lead to pie, then they are ok.

The two girlies got pie to go. Not this guy. I want me pie and I want it now. In my last review the coconut creme pie was in need of some attention. Mainly the topping was supposed to be whipping creme, but it was more like paste. This time I went for chocolate pie. Now if you mess up chocolate pie, then quit cooking pie. This time around the chocolate pie was very good and the whipping creme topping was excellent. Once again, they checked out my review and got with the program.

So this time, things were much better.

Palios Pizza Cafe - Amarillo, Texas

This last week me, the wifey and grands CBoss, Lil Darlin, and King L were touring West Texas. You know a redneck has many things in common with a cowboy. You know a little pain like a broken leg is no big deal for some fun. So I fit right in for the last week. We ended up in Amarillo which is probably the capital of West Texas. Since we were traveling with the grands and CBoss has been known to eat pizza 3 meals a day for up to a week at a time, pizza for dinner is always a good choice. So we did the Amarillo Slim to Palios.

The restaurant is very nice on the inside. The staff were very attentive and the waitress we had was one of the best we have had in a long time.

I just don't understand but the Wifey, Lil Darlin and King L ordered chicken alfredo/spaghetti and meatballs. We were in  a pizza place!!!! They did report that the food was real good.

As for me and CBoss there was no choice, Pepperoni Pizza. CBoss reports after one extra large pizza, that this is in his top five. And I repeat he eats a lot of pizza. I agree with him. This was good fixin's.

After the main course the waitress asked if we would be eating dessert. Duh!!!! The wifey got triple layered chocolate cake, CBoss ordered cheesecake and Lil Darlin ordered Strawberry cheesecake. They all reported that they were very good. As for myself, I went for the chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of ice cream. It didn't say the cookie was the size of a dinner plate, which really was no problem. Man this was some good cookie. As good as The Great American Cookie and other bakeries specializing in cookies.

Overall, this was some real good fixins. I giv'em a 8.7987987

Afterwards we went to Palo Duro Canyon to see the Musical Texas. If you haven't ever seen this musical and you call yourself a Texan, get yourself to Palo Duro Canyon and check it out. While you are go to Palios for some grub.

Burger Style Cafe - Mesquite

As you know on Sunday's the wifey and I go to the First Fried Chicken Eating Mostly Non-Denomination, Somewhat Baptist Church. This Sunday after church we needed to eat lunch close to church because we had an important bidness meeting close to the church. So after careful consideration we did the burger hop to Burger Style Cafe. Obviously this place supports rednecks of all kinds. They even have Elvis perform the 3rd Friday of every month. Elvis disappeared/checked out over 40 years ago, yet he still performs the 3rd Friday night of every month. Amazing.

I had some concerns while we were ordering. A pizza delivery guy came in while we were ordering and delivered a pizza to the cook and his helper. I don't know about you, but I eat anything I cook. When you are the cook of an eatery and you order your food via takeout, I have some concerns.

The wifey ordered a Kids burger which turned out to be the same size as adulthood burgers. I ordered the cheeseburger/fries combo. The fries were pretty good, better than average.

The burger was a pretty good burger, but not any better than a Whataburger and this meal cost twice the cost of Whataburger. All burgers are judged against the Whataburger. What can I say, currently the best burger in Texas (at least till the new owners mess with the burger).

Overall, give'm a 7.01

Devils Bowl Concession Stand

It was the wifey's birthday (aka chipper). There just isn't any better evening on the town than some top flite dirt track racing and a white table cloth dinner at the concession stand of the Devils Bowl. All you other ladies out there can just forget it. The wifey wouldn't let me go for anything after being treated like a queen.

The Devils Bowl is home base for rednecks of North Texas. We all gather to show each other very good etiquette. You can learn so much here. This is where I get most of my material for this blog. It is just so rich in redneckism. We did the Bumpy Road to the Devils Bowl for a birthday party above all others.

The wifey got a hot dog. It was amazing. It was less than half the size of a normal hot dog. It apparently tasted ok, but you would have to eat several just to say you had one. I went for the cheeseburger. The meat had a pretty good flavor, but the bun, lettuce and pickles were soggy and seemed like they had been made several days ago even though I watched the cook make the meat.
The size of this cheeseburger made me think it was a miniature slider. This won't compete with Whataburger!!!! Later we got meat and cheese nachos. These were pretty good.

Overall, next time we will have dinner at Taco Bell or McDonalds and enjoy it more.

Because the wifey enjoyed the Devils Bowl so much, the next night I took her to Lawton, Ok to the Lawton Speedway to see some more dirt track racing. We will talk about the bathrooms at this place for years to come. Disgusting even for a redneck.  I did take the wifey to Texas Roadhouse for dinner which is one of her favorites. And being a certified Texas Redneck, I had to grin eating at a Texas Roadhouse in Oklahoma.

You just can't celebrate a birthday any better than my wifey's this year. I am just entirely too good to this woman.

Givin DB a 5.0000, and that is being gracious.

I do have some redneck wannabees that have indicated the burritos here are awesome, so in the next month or two, we will have a redneck confab at DB and have a burrito evening. Something to look forward to.

Chuy's - Plano

It was a long day today hanging with the chickens and taking care of them. I have never had so many girlfriends in all of my life. I am currently building them a chicken mansion. You know, nothing but the best for future fajitas.

At the end of the day we had to go to Frisco for some immunizations. If you are not familiar with North Texas, to the people on the East side of Dallas, Frisco is on the other side of the world.

Me and the wifey are going to Africa soon to search out fellow rednecks in the bush and outback. They may have redneck ways that would be appealing to us, you never know. To go to Africa we have to get immunizations for every disease that has ever hit earth. Since most of these immunizations are taken by travelers, the traveler pharmacies are in Plano and Frisco, not in redneck country. So we have to travel across the world for our shots. This time was Cholera. It is kind of funny, if you are over a certain age, they will not give you the immunization for Cholera. I guess they think that it is just ok for me to die but the wifey is worth savings.

We make it a point that when we are on that side of the world, we eat at Chuy's. (Come on Chuy's build one on the East side of Dallas somewhere.) We are a big fan of the Chuy's. So we did the Chimichanga over to Chuy's on 75 in Plano.

The Chuy's salsa is nothing to speak about. Large quantity of tomatoes, with a little onion and cilantro. But order the Jalapeno Ranch. Oh my, that is some top drawer fixin's rat there. They can't bring us chips fast enough.

I ordered the Comida Deluxe. This is two Tex-Mex Cheese Enchiladas, two chicken flautas, crispy taco, guacamole, tostada chips, etc. Man this is a lot of food. I normally am snacking two hours after a meal, but not after this one. Everyone one of these items are good stuff. You can never go wrong at Chews.

I givem a 8.651897

If you are in Plano, bring your spit can and let's grab some grub at Chews.

The Porch Swing - Mesquite

Hey Mesquite we actually have a new major restaurant. Hoooooray. Of course the percentage of restaurants that have closed after I blogged them is mind boggling. Oh well, good luck The Porch Swing.

After a hard day of whittlin', judging a tobaccy spittin' contest and fishin for mudcat down at the crick, I had worked up a powerful hunger. So the wifey suggested we Sashay on over to The Porch Swing. The place is a down home cookin of fixins like grandma made. So we are very high on the possiblities. The menu of entrees actually is pretty limited, but then grandma only cooked a few items. Actually I only remember my dad's mom cooking fried chicken (aka Yardbird). Yea she would chase one down soon after we drug up and start the process for lunch. Since they are grandma like, I will cut them some slack.

Of course we ordered Chicken Fried Steak. If you are down home, you are Chicken Fried Steak. The breading was thick, crunchy and very tasty. However, the meat was a little tough. For $15 (all the entrees are about $15) I would expect a pretty decent piece of meat. They need some work here. I also ordered pinto beans. This is the other staple that is a must to be good. These are pretty good pinto beans, but they could use a little more spice. You know Mitcho likes spicy things. So next time bring some chili powder and throw it on top before you dive in. With a little chili powder, these would be top of the hill beans. The wifey also had the green beans and gave them a good report.

Now the real reason we were there (and everyone else that have heard the rumors down by the crick) is PIE!!!!!!!!! I have heard mention that this place has home made pies. So I was ok with splitting the CFS, but I want my own pie. One note, I think they have an apple option, but they need cherry, peach, or some other fruity option. So I went for the coconut cream pie. The topping, which I am guessing is whipped cream was very thin and crusty, but the cocunut cream filling was very very good. So over all the pie was a good.

This joint has been only open a few days. They need to review my blog and recipe suggestions and step it up just a bit. The inside is an interesting modern layout, but it does have porch swings out front. This will be good once it warms up. Also, I saw a number of other redneck types that I have served time with here, so the city (those that are not currently incarcerated) is checking it out. After a few weeks I guess the business will level off some.

Overall, it was good, but I would choose a fried pie at Fuel City over the pie, which leaves the rest suspect.
