Devils Bowl Concession Stand

It was the wifey's birthday (aka chipper). There just isn't any better evening on the town than some top flite dirt track racing and a white table cloth dinner at the concession stand of the Devils Bowl. All you other ladies out there can just forget it. The wifey wouldn't let me go for anything after being treated like a queen.

The Devils Bowl is home base for rednecks of North Texas. We all gather to show each other very good etiquette. You can learn so much here. This is where I get most of my material for this blog. It is just so rich in redneckism. We did the Bumpy Road to the Devils Bowl for a birthday party above all others.

The wifey got a hot dog. It was amazing. It was less than half the size of a normal hot dog. It apparently tasted ok, but you would have to eat several just to say you had one. I went for the cheeseburger. The meat had a pretty good flavor, but the bun, lettuce and pickles were soggy and seemed like they had been made several days ago even though I watched the cook make the meat.
The size of this cheeseburger made me think it was a miniature slider. This won't compete with Whataburger!!!! Later we got meat and cheese nachos. These were pretty good.

Overall, next time we will have dinner at Taco Bell or McDonalds and enjoy it more.

Because the wifey enjoyed the Devils Bowl so much, the next night I took her to Lawton, Ok to the Lawton Speedway to see some more dirt track racing. We will talk about the bathrooms at this place for years to come. Disgusting even for a redneck.  I did take the wifey to Texas Roadhouse for dinner which is one of her favorites. And being a certified Texas Redneck, I had to grin eating at a Texas Roadhouse in Oklahoma.

You just can't celebrate a birthday any better than my wifey's this year. I am just entirely too good to this woman.

Givin DB a 5.0000, and that is being gracious.

I do have some redneck wannabees that have indicated the burritos here are awesome, so in the next month or two, we will have a redneck confab at DB and have a burrito evening. Something to look forward to.

Chuy's - Plano

It was a long day today hanging with the chickens and taking care of them. I have never had so many girlfriends in all of my life. I am currently building them a chicken mansion. You know, nothing but the best for future fajitas.

At the end of the day we had to go to Frisco for some immunizations. If you are not familiar with North Texas, to the people on the East side of Dallas, Frisco is on the other side of the world.

Me and the wifey are going to Africa soon to search out fellow rednecks in the bush and outback. They may have redneck ways that would be appealing to us, you never know. To go to Africa we have to get immunizations for every disease that has ever hit earth. Since most of these immunizations are taken by travelers, the traveler pharmacies are in Plano and Frisco, not in redneck country. So we have to travel across the world for our shots. This time was Cholera. It is kind of funny, if you are over a certain age, they will not give you the immunization for Cholera. I guess they think that it is just ok for me to die but the wifey is worth savings.

We make it a point that when we are on that side of the world, we eat at Chuy's. (Come on Chuy's build one on the East side of Dallas somewhere.) We are a big fan of the Chuy's. So we did the Chimichanga over to Chuy's on 75 in Plano.

The Chuy's salsa is nothing to speak about. Large quantity of tomatoes, with a little onion and cilantro. But order the Jalapeno Ranch. Oh my, that is some top drawer fixin's rat there. They can't bring us chips fast enough.

I ordered the Comida Deluxe. This is two Tex-Mex Cheese Enchiladas, two chicken flautas, crispy taco, guacamole, tostada chips, etc. Man this is a lot of food. I normally am snacking two hours after a meal, but not after this one. Everyone one of these items are good stuff. You can never go wrong at Chews.

I givem a 8.651897

If you are in Plano, bring your spit can and let's grab some grub at Chews.

The Porch Swing - Mesquite

Hey Mesquite we actually have a new major restaurant. Hoooooray. Of course the percentage of restaurants that have closed after I blogged them is mind boggling. Oh well, good luck The Porch Swing.

After a hard day of whittlin', judging a tobaccy spittin' contest and fishin for mudcat down at the crick, I had worked up a powerful hunger. So the wifey suggested we Sashay on over to The Porch Swing. The place is a down home cookin of fixins like grandma made. So we are very high on the possiblities. The menu of entrees actually is pretty limited, but then grandma only cooked a few items. Actually I only remember my dad's mom cooking fried chicken (aka Yardbird). Yea she would chase one down soon after we drug up and start the process for lunch. Since they are grandma like, I will cut them some slack.

Of course we ordered Chicken Fried Steak. If you are down home, you are Chicken Fried Steak. The breading was thick, crunchy and very tasty. However, the meat was a little tough. For $15 (all the entrees are about $15) I would expect a pretty decent piece of meat. They need some work here. I also ordered pinto beans. This is the other staple that is a must to be good. These are pretty good pinto beans, but they could use a little more spice. You know Mitcho likes spicy things. So next time bring some chili powder and throw it on top before you dive in. With a little chili powder, these would be top of the hill beans. The wifey also had the green beans and gave them a good report.

Now the real reason we were there (and everyone else that have heard the rumors down by the crick) is PIE!!!!!!!!! I have heard mention that this place has home made pies. So I was ok with splitting the CFS, but I want my own pie. One note, I think they have an apple option, but they need cherry, peach, or some other fruity option. So I went for the coconut cream pie. The topping, which I am guessing is whipped cream was very thin and crusty, but the cocunut cream filling was very very good. So over all the pie was a good.

This joint has been only open a few days. They need to review my blog and recipe suggestions and step it up just a bit. The inside is an interesting modern layout, but it does have porch swings out front. This will be good once it warms up. Also, I saw a number of other redneck types that I have served time with here, so the city (those that are not currently incarcerated) is checking it out. After a few weeks I guess the business will level off some.

Overall, it was good, but I would choose a fried pie at Fuel City over the pie, which leaves the rest suspect.

Rodeo Goat - The Harbor Rockwall

It is valentines time and the girlies in my Community Group at The First Fried Chicken Eating Mostly Non-Denominational Somewhat Baptist church have conspired again to get a good dinner from us low life husbands. For all you hard heads out there, you get your wifey candy, flowers and buy her a good meal on Valentines. Otherwise you are going to hear about for many years to come. So don't be that guy in line at Kroger's at 8:00pm on Valentines Day about to checkout a can or pork and beans for your sweetie (see my blog 2-14-18), you might as well have bought her the shot gun shells. So this sophisticated redneck let's his sweeties buy her own candy, pick her restaurant and give me detailed instructions on the flowers I buy. Not real romantic but pretty safe. This year she drove to Trinity Groves to a very exclusive candy store in which I apparently bought her 15 or so pieces of candy.

These girlies picked Rodeo Goat as our Valentine's Meal. Being a good redneck eating at a place with the name Rodeo Goat sounds like a bucking good time. What it really means is hamburger joint in which you won't understand what any of the burgers are going to be.

So we did the Sweetie Shuffle to Rodeo Goat in Rockwall at The Harbor.

To start things off we ordered an appetizer of Cheese Fries Surprise. That is kind of scary when after looking at the hamburger's, I don't understand half of what I read. Apparently havarti is a really good cheese. What is hydroponic sprouts, berry boursin, gruyere, blackberry compote, kalamata, tapenade, arugula, on and on and on. Of course bacon is mentioned on several of the burgers and Mitcho knows bacon. So Surprise could be a valid concern. It turns out, Surprise is jalapeno's and house chili. This is some good fixins. It is a tie with Snuffers cheese fries,so that is a good.

After going over the menu several times. I settled for the Terlingua burger. It has the aforementioned havarti cheese (which was good), house chili which was good, onion (you know Mitcho loves his onion), corn chips, and garlic-herb mayo. I know everything here assuming havarti is cheese. This was a pretty big burger and it was very good. An explosion of flavors awaits you here.

The wifey got the "Inner Beauty" burger. She didn't need it, she is already beautiful inside out (It is Valentines and I am not as stupid as l look.) But she thought it was good go. She said she liked it and it was gone in just a few minutes.

Since there was 14 of us, there were good times, tall tales, and plans for future mischief to get into.

Overall give'm a 8.549849874564

Lindy's Restaurant Seagoville Rd

We have a long time close friend that over the years have given us ideas for restaurants to eat in and he has never been wrong. So recently he had dinner with Elvis in Lindy's and posted it on Facebook. The wifey saw it on Facebook and asked if he recommended Lindy's and he did. So we did the
Klompendansen down to Lindy's. The restaurant is on I-20 just East of I-635 and I-20. This place is on the border of Balch Springs and Seagoville so it is definitely redneck country. For my upstanding/ employed/milennials/generation X/respectable friends, come by the house on the way and I will give you enough flannel to get you in.

This is actually a very nice building outside and inside. This is home cooking. So comfort food. Chicken Fried Steak, veggies, salad, etc., but they didn't serve rolls with our dinner.

The wifey went for the Chicken Fried Steak, pinto beans, corn and spinach. She gave high marks to CFS, beans and corn. However, she wanted to have a session outside with the cook over the spinach.  I have been to the woodshed with her and it is not pretty. The waitress and cashier both indicated the spinach wasn't their best item. If they know it, why don't they fix it???

I went for the Taco Salad. The shell it came in was one of the largest I have ever had and it was full of meat, lettuce, cheese, etc. They also served chips and salsa with it. The chips and salsa were about normal, nothing great, but not bad ether. The salad was very tasty and filling. So they can do redneck Mexican also.

Our friend recommends breakfast with Janis Joplin and lunch with Jimmie Hendrix besides dinner with Elvis. I agree this is a good place to go for southern comfort food. So grab up your recent cell mates, swing by my hacienda for some flannel disguises and boogy to Lindy's. I don't think you will go wrong, of course unless the county sheriff is there also.

Degenhardt's Brat Haus - Legacy Hall in Legacy West / The 8 Tracks Band

A few years ago we adopted a young lady as a grandchild for us to hang with, bug and annoy. I didn't think through the consequences of having a smart high schooler to hang with. One night a year ago, she came over, smiled real big, batted her eyes and informed me that I was judging a Speech Contest at Hockaday Prepartory School. Yea, the King Redneck goes into a private school that the billionaires across America send their kids to school. Yea that went real well. I am not sure how a pair of white crackers that are very conservative ends up with a beautiful Mexican young woman that is ultra liberal. Makes for some good debates and she's good at debating. Today, our lil darlin is in college now and is home for the Christmas break. So the wifey decided we needed to take her to dinner and Ketchup with what is going on in her life. Knowing lil darlin likes 70's and 80's rock music like we do,.I did some checking and found one of our favorite local bands was playing in Legacy Hall in Legacy West. So time to do the boogy boogy to Legacy West.

I had never been to Legacy West. Wow, you could spend a whole months paycheck in less than an hour in this place. The shops are so fancy I have never heard of any of them. If you was in dire need of some creek supplies, you know a treble hook, stink bait or a toad sticker you would be completely out of luck . Well maybe you could find a rhinestone one which cost a $1,000 to fish for mud cat with. Needless to say I did not let the girlies to go into any of the stores. For all you fans from Skeeterville, Legacy West is conveniently located on the far northwest side of Plano, just across the Yard from Frisco.

Legacy Hall is in Legacy West. It is a building that has 3 stories of restaurants and watering holes. It also has an outdoor concert venue that is pretty cool. Tonight real cool since it was in 40"s. This is a pretty cool spot to hangout and listen to some music. Warning, if you are planning on eating dinner, yes there are a few tables, but no where near enough. The restaurants are upscale food court eateries. Fancy grub at a fancy price sold in a food court effectively. Not bashing it, just a new concept. The good part of this is the wifey went to one place, I took lil darlin to another and after I had them situated I went to a third.

I went to Degenhardt's Brat Haus. I am just guessing, the food has a German twang to it. I ordered the Spicy Wurst, which was a spicy brat with saute'd onions. I also added beer batter mustard, sauerkraut and jalapenos. So a little German with a little Mexican. Man this brat was spicy just like they said. It was spicerrific. Napkins was more sparse than tables, so I wound up with mustard all over me. But it was slap your mammy good!

We consumed our vittles on a picnic table out in the Box Garden music venue. When I was growed up, a picnic table was fine dining.

Once we finished, the 8 Tracks Band started playing their list of 70's and 80's rock block busters. We tapped our feet, rocked our heads, squealed, kept time with the beat by clapping, overall rocked out and occasionally sang a few lyrics. This is the 3rd time we have seen them and they do a really good job.

Overall, givem Legacy Hall and Degenhardt's a 8.34864854.

Normas Cafe - Oak Cliff

As you know we go to The First Fried Chicken Eaten Mostly Non-Denominational somewhat Baptist Church. Our church has a policy to not have church services on the last Sunday of each year. So they are turning all of the rednecks loose on all the other surrounding churches. There may be a game plan there. As for the wifey and me, we have been long time friends with Pastor and Sister Smith at Bibleway Baptist Church in East Oak Cliff. We believe and support in the ministry of the Smith's to East Oak Cliff.

Since we were in Oak Cliff, we decided to eat lunch in Oak Cliff. The wifey presented a number of possibilities but Norma's was on the list, so none of the other choices were given any consideration. Besides, if you claim to be from Dallas, you have eaten at Norma's. Till now the wifey has been a Dallas wannabee, but now she is legit. As for me, my dad took me here back when I was a teenager. You know when the paint on the walls were new and the pictures were current events. So if your birth certificate says you were born in Dallas and you haven't eaten at Norma's, you need to go there to complete the process and be a real Dallasite. The other place every Dallasite should eat at at least once is on the east side of Dallas and is the Circle Grill, but that is for a different blog.

Norma's is small building that they have crammed into it the maximum number of booths. There are even booths in the area where the waitresses get coffee, tea, cokes, etc. I mean they have maximized every foot. They have been there since 1956. The parking is even smaller. But God was on our side this trip, as a car pulled out from right in front as we drove up. So recognizing God's grace we took the spot.

This is the queen of home cooking. All the home cooking classics and PIE.

The wifey got the chicken fried steak and gave good marks to the breading which is a must. The meat was a little tougher than it should be, but she thought it was pretty good overall.

I went for the Frito Pie. You have to be from Texas to really appreciate Frito Pie. Frito's, chili, onion, jalapeno's, cheese, etc. How can you go wrong. Man this was some good grub. The chili had a very good flavor, not Wick Fowler good, but Good. It needed more onion, but you know Mitcho really likes the onion. I will be making a return engagement to get me some more Frito Pie.

They also brought us rolls and cornbread. Man the cornbread was grandma good. The rolls were very tasty also.

Now for PIE. I went for the cherry pie. This was about as good a cherry pie as I have ever eaten. The wifey went for chocolate & peanut butter pie. It was gone before I realized she was eating it. I didn't ask but it had to be a Good.

Happy New Year
