It is Friday night and the wifey informed me we were going to dinner and a movie. She gave me two choices of movie and my choice was the Jason Bourne movie. You know a good redneck appreciates a good constant tail kicking movie. So we did the Chasapiko to Forney.
We were pretty short on time so we needed to go to a restaurant near the movie theatre. So we settled on Los Hermanos. When I went into the restaurant, there were very few people in there. It is 6:00 on Friday night. That is not a good sign. So we ordered drinks (iced tea, the national drink of Texas) and dove into the chips and hot sauce. The hot sauce had a little chili powder taste and was spicier than most, not really hot, just spicy. The chips were not quite as good as the normal chip, but they were edible.
I ordered the #1 which is a taco, cheese enchilada, and beef enchilada with rice. The taco had plenty of lettuce and cheese, but when you get to the meat, it is just plain meat. No spices, no flavor, nothing. The cheese enchilada had a pretty good tasting cheese and there was plenty of it. The beef enchilada had the same beef as in the taco and a little sauce on top that had little flavor. Come on, it is Tex-Mex, put some spices in there.
Now I understand why the place was nearly empty at 6:00 on Friday night. I won't bother going back to Los Hermanos. Next time I will eat the $1.00 hot dog at the movie and drink the $5.00 coke. The wifey/Chipper would be happier making popcorn her meal anyway. You know, thinking about it, she might have some redneck in her also. Popcorn for dinner, sounds right to me.
Givem a 6.5
Afterwards, we headed to the theatre to watch the new Jason Bourne movie. I think the violence and killin started before the movie and he may not be done yet. Co-Staring was Tommy Lee Jones, which always does a good job. Killins, fighting, killins, car chases, motorcycle chases, killins, and one car chase that is pretty unbelievable, but very entertaining. If you like action movies this is a keeper.
Givem two thumbs up (two is all I got).

Bread Winners Cafe & Bakery - North Park
So me and the wifey had an appointment with an investment advisor right after lunch near Northpark. So needing to score some points with the wifey I offered to take her to Bread Winners in Northpark for lunch.
First of all, I had to wear a disguise to get in. No rednecks allowed. Now this is not a redneck hangout. After reading the menu I understand burger. My mouth was watering and salivating over the burger when the wifey informed me that we were sharing and it was going to be something I didn't understand. Yes ma'am.
So we ordered a Southwest Chicken Tortilla rollup. This delicacy came with French fries.
Blackened chicken, some other stuff and a chipotle sauce that was pretty spicy. You know Mitcho likes spicy. You don't come here for the main course of the meal anyway. The fries were just basic fries. What's up with that/
Now we finally got to the main reason to be there chocolate cake with 4 layers of icing. You know us rednecks like our sweets. This was some good grub right here.
Everything was going well till the bill came. Afterwards, there was no need to go the investment advisor as there was no money left to invest.

Wienerschnitzel - Mesquite
So the wifey and I were kicking around where to eat lunch and she out of the blue suggests Wienerschnitzel on Oates. How can that be, I never realized there was one that close to home. Why haven't my redneck friends redirected by energy in that direction? I was flabbergasted.
So we did the Texas Tommy to Wienerschnitzel. It is just down the shopping center from Burger Thing, and I have eaten in the Burger Thing a number of times. It actually is pretty small inside. Only a small handful of tables.
Since this is my first visit in a number of years, I went for the #1, which is two chili dogs, fries and a drink. The dogs are just the basic size dog. The menu indicates that for $1.00 more you can get beef wieners. I will spend the dollar next time. The wiener was sketchy to say the least. The chili was watery with not much spice or taste. As the wifey said, this doesn't compare to the dog at home. Of course we load it with Wolf Brand chili and get beef Oscar Meyer wieners. Also lot's of mustard, pickle relish, onions, cheese, etc. I didn't see an offer of onions or relish which would have helped.
In my book it is a little pricey here. Two chili dogs, small fry and small drink for $6.29. It is going to be $8.29 to get a wiener that I would want to eat.
I am not giving up on the place, next time I am going for the beef dog and the time after that I am going after the polish sausage. At that point, I will make a lifelong decision about the Schnitzel.

The House of Gyros - Mesquite
Dinner time happened again here tonight. Imagine that. So the wifey suggested we go to The House of Gyros. She has some buds that have given good reports. So we did the Kleistos to The House of Gyros. You know you just gotta do it once in a while.
If you are going East from Belt Line on Davis (past Mesquite High School) towards Pioneer, this place is in a non descript building on the right hand side. Go slow or you will miss it.
This is a very old building and they have made some attempt at livening it up. It is not very big. The owner and staff were very friendly. You know us rednecks need all the friends we can get, they might just have bail money.
There was a TV showing some Greek channel with people talking in Greek and all the printed words were in Greek. It was all Greek to me.
Our waiter was a little hard to understand. I believe he said they had sweet, unsweet and Peace Tea. We thought he said Peach Tea. This place does not have a fountain for soda drinks nor do they make tea. All of their drinks either come in a bottle or can. Now you know a redneck is going to drink a large amount of libations. So being limited to a can or bottle just won't cut it.
We ordered a Gyro and fries. The Gyro came in a Pita roll, with some veggies and a sauce. This wasn't bad, but not quite as tasty as Athenos. The fries looked doctored up some, but the just tasted like fries.
The owner gave us a free dessert which you know I like free. The dessert seemed like a donut, but a little harder. It had some powder sugar and a syrup. The syrup seemed watered down. This was ok, but nothing great.
Overall, this was a good meal, but not outstanding. Most likely we will go back when the wifey tells me I am going back.

TaMolly's - Paris Tx.
So it is 4th of July, so you know a good redneck is out in nature popping fireworks (in his hand) and eating way too much food. So my campin buds decided we were going to a cabin in Battiest, Ok. Yes, I know, you have never heard of it. And after this, you won't anymore. Pretty cute cabins on the banks of the Glover River. I won't say the fishing was good, but everyone in the camp that threw a fishing line, caught a fish. Even all of the girls. A good redneck has to like that. Of course one of our gang has a nasty habit of catching large alligator gar's. Yes, there is a pocket knife in the boat just in case. None of our captains are wanting to be in the boat with an alligator gar. Also, Darlin, a 5 year old girl showed off her skills of catching bugs all weekend long.
So the meals for the weekend were fajita's, tacos, burritos, breakfast burritos, and no 4th July would not be complete without chili dogs and hamburgers. So when we are travelling home on Monday and going through Paris, TX at the lunch hour, of course we stopped for Mexican food.
So I have had experiences with TaMolly's before. My mother thinks the one in Greenville is the best Mexican food place around. Of course, she doesn't get around much. As the conversation went at our table, it wasn't bad, but in Dallas/Fort Worth, it wouldn't make it a week. Now if there was a TaMolly's in Oklahoma, Colorado or Montana it would be great compared to the others.
On this journey, I ordered the enchilada plate with one cheese enchilada and one beef enchilada. Both covered with queso. It also came with rice and beans, duh.
The chips were your basic Mexican restaurant chips. The salsa was mostly tomatoes, not much spice or bite.
The cheese enchilada was a basic cheese en. It was OK, but nothing special. The beef enchilada was almost disappointing. The beef just did not have any spice in it at all, It was just plain ground beef. I want some spices in there. Let's get things going, OK. The rice and beans were basic rice and beans.
Overall, this meal is OK, but that is the best I can do.
Of course Double Digits in my party ordered a tamale plate since we were in TaMolly's. He only ate 1/4 of the plate and he can be a big eater sometimes. So the tamales didn't hold up to the restaurant's name.
Givem a 6.5.

Twisted Root Burgers - Commerce St Dallas
Around lunch today, we had bidness to tend to in Downtown Dallas. No it wasn't a court hearing or visiting with the bond company, this was legit business. This time.
We have been here many times before. It is in Deep Ellem, and I probably would not want to be down here after dark. But during the day and the evening, ordinary people can slide into here and get fed with good grub. About 1/2 of the place is a watering hole, but there are provisions for us teetotalers. If I was a young single dude I would be hanging out here regularly. This place is full of hot and cold running young women.
We always order the Ranch Hand burger. Peppercorn Jack cheese, a peppercorn sauce, two strips of bacon, the normal fixin's and a good burger. This is a pretty good size burger. My only problem is it is not on the menu any longer. So you have to order off the menu. Now I am one of those guys that thinks the menu should show everything, there shouldn't be a secret code for the good stuff. If the internet junkie that trolls blogs about the joint knows about food selections, everyone should know about it. But I do know about the Ranch Hand and I really like it, so I am off the menu.
We also order something fried. This time fried onion strings, but they have good fried pickles, fried sweet potato chips, and I think fried green beans. The fried pickles are my second favorite after Razoos.
This is some above average fixin's for a burger joint. Of course a number of magazines have listed Twisted Root as one of the best, and Mitcho agrees.

Burger King on Town East in Mesquite - What else can go wrong!!!!!
So the wifey had a lunch scheduled with ole school teacher buddies. So I was left to lunch by myself. Normally, that could be dangerous, but I decided to go fast and cheap. So I did the Bachata down to Burger King on Town East Blvd in Mesquite. Big mistake.
As I walked up to the door to enter, they have the danger floor is wet signs out. My first thought was, it is ashame that all the lawsuits make businesses inform the public when the floor might be wet, when it has rained outside. However, when I got inside I look to the left and there is a pretty large flow of water from the ceiling. It hasn't rained in 2 or 3 hours, so if it had leaked that much for 3 hours there shouldn't be any water left. Their solution to the problem was a large trash can under the leak. So needless to say, the level of humidity in the restaurant was high.
Then I walk up to order and on the back of the register is a large note that they can't take credit cards. Now Mitcho wants his points from credit card charges. That is how I can afford to fly to other cities to review their restaurants. So I am not happy.
I have to wait a few minutes to order because the person is cleaning tables and that is more important than taking an order.
I finally order my burger, onion rings, and a drink. Of course I pay with cash (gritting my teeth). So the worker gives me a drink cup.
I go to the drink machine and the ice does not work. So I have to go back to the register and after a few minutes, the employee finally acknowledges me and goes to the drive thru machine and gets me ice.
I go back to the drink machine to find that the drink part does not work either. So oh boy, I get to go back to the register and get ignored again. Finally I get my Fanta Peach. Actually this is the reason I came here, because I like Fanta Peach. That won't be enough of a pull in the future.
After a few more minutes, my meal finally is ready. With fries!!!!!!! I ordered onion rings. Oh boy, I get to deal with the employee at the register again. She says, "oh yeah, you ordered fries". I am the only customer in the restaurant, how hard is it to look at the order to get it right???? So she fixed me some onion rings and off to a table to eat my meal with no problems for a couple of minutes.
So when I am through with my meal, I want to refill my drink. So I go back to the drink machine and there is a gentleman standing nearby. I thought he was waiting on his order (good luck with that). So I go by him to the drink machine. It still does not work. So back to the register to get help. When the employee finally comes I realize the gentleman is waiting on a drink also, so I have her get his drink first. He was there first. When she brings him his drink, she wheels around and goes back to filling orders. He comments that's what you get for being nice. So I wait till she fills about 3 orders and still ignores me. So I finally step up to the counter and basically block all transactions. So I finally get my refill of Fanta Peach. I really like Fanta Peach.
I gladly leave knowing this nightmare is over. Thanks to my blog being read by people all over the world (about 40 countries at this point), this bad experience is going to be worse for Burger King than me.
I giv'em a MINUS 9.
